Adi Shancharachaya Temple

Reviewed By indusatish2000 - Kozhikode, India

The visit was in connection of a yoga retreat, at Adi Shankara Nilayam, Veliyanad Kochi. We were on our way from Kozhikode to Veliyanad, we dropped by, at Kalady Adi Shankara Nilayam. The whole place is a small complex maintained by Sringeri Shankaracharya Mutt, consists a few monuments; 1) The Adi Shankara Temple is a quadrangle of small temples, paintings depicting life of ADI sHANKARA erected in the place where Adi Shankara lived as a child, till 8 years of age. The most important is a small stone pillar, which is supposed to have survived from Adi Shankara's time. The place is well maintained by the Adi Shankara Mutt, Sringeri, is serene and peaceful, by the banks of River Purna, now called Peiryar. 2) Sri Krishna Temple is adjacent to the above structure, small in size, which Adi Shankara and his family were supposed to have used as their family temple. 3) The MuthalaKaduvu, next to the above two monuments is a part of the River Purna / Periyar is apparently a small detour of the river, which happened as a result of intense prayer by Adi Shankara, requesting the river to come near his home, so that his ailing mother could continue to take her rictualistic bath. Preferable to reach there in the morning, the Temple clases by 10 AM, The Janmabhoomi ??closes at noon

Beautiful, serene and quiet place. Full of divine vibrations on Mahashivaratri ... vedic chants in the temple on the banks of river Purna, river flow in synch with vedic chants , quiet and pleasant atmosphere - It is the "heaven on earth", "Abode of Shiva shakthi". I and my family visited Sharada maatha temple, Jagadguru temple and Lord Krishna temple. Participated in the Shivaratri puja for some time. I wish to visit this place frequently and be part of the cosmic blessings of Jagadguru and Maha Shakthi.
