Paola Luisa Amico, master of art, since 1990 in his workshop in Via Guarrasi (at the very center of the medieval village of Erice) reinterprets the traditional style of decoration of Sicilian ceramics and local. At the same time developing a personal style and original research and exclusive.
Tucked away in one of the narrow cobbled streets of Erice is an artist at work, Her ceramics are so beautiful, so perfect in form and colour. We shall use our purchases with added joy having met Paola and seen her working on a fine piece. Well worth a visit.

Happy to try the famous place of Erice in gastronomy! Super tasty and super friendly! Genovese super and the liquor ones too... a small place on the local Corso. We opted for a takeaway as the place is small. Strolling with a dolce... mmm

No need to actually enter the castle (which closes at 2pm, at least on a Thursday). The garden around offers some fantastic views over the clifftop castle and the surrounding landscape! We drove up in a rental car, beautiful drive indeed!

We stopped in this shop only to buy only a small plate but once they told us that they ship to the US we began to look at their ceramic products from a more discerning point of view. We ended up purchasing a beautiful (and very unique) serving bowl and a matching platter for our daughter and her husband. The pottery is fully functional for food service and we were told is microwaveable. The pottery arrived promptly today; it was in excellent condition reflecting the fact that the items were quite carefully packed. For us this shop was a great find.

A stroll through Erice is a pleasant one, specially if you go off season. Explore the alleys and the churches and enjoy this beautiful medieval town. There is a combined ticket that allows you to enter 5 or 6 different sites for 10 eur only.

You might just think 'another church' as there are so many in Erice but this one is well worth seeking out for the opportunity to visit the church that is accessed via it - Casa Santa San Francesco di Sales which has the most amazing frescoes on the walls and ceiling. The current church was built in C18th on the site of a Norman church dedicated to the Irish bishop, San Cataldo.

We looked out on this charming piece of history from our accommodation. Even though it is so old and narrow it is the main exit from this delightful small very old town. It actually marks the prestigious, historical entrance point. It leads to the first important site in the old town – Chiesa Matrice. Also from there uphill - Via Vittorio Emanuele leads to the town’s central point: Piazza Umberto I.
