Puffin Ventures hosts a unique collection of handmade items that are made locally. We are located in scenic Maberly (Elliston, Newfoundland) and our craft store is one of those old fashion stores that you don’t see much of anymore. Although a relatively new construction it has been built along the old style pattern of stores that once existed throughout Newfoundland. There are even old fashion items decorating the shop that remind one of an era gone by. It is family owned and operated with the vast majority of handmade crafts/items made by local artisans (much with a focus on Puffins, of course). Here you will not find shelves filled with the mass produced stuff commonly found at many places for souvenirs. Frankly, turning over an item you purchased as gift only to see made anywhere but here diminishes the Newfoundland vacation experience.

Those with a fear of heights might not enjoy the site as it is along rocky cliffs. Caution must be taken, especially in a few areas and near the edges. There are a couple root cellars on the path to the viewing area. When we first arrived in the early evening to the puffin viewing area there were only a couple puffins flying around. We decided to stick around a little while longer, and I am so glad we did because many more puffins started flying around and landing on the island, bringing fish back from the ocean. They are so cute and fascinating to watch. Although you can see them with your naked eye, most of the puffins are on the island just off shore, so a camera with a good zoom lens or binoculars are needed to get a really good view. It was great being able to see puffins without having to take a boat tour! We also saw a fox. Very happy we visited the Elliston Puffin Site

The beautiful scenic view of the ocean and rock formations along the Klondike Trail was amazing. The trail was very easy to walk and a great place to go for a hike and a picnic.Very few flies to bother me because of the cool breeze coming from over the land and nearby ocean. You can leave from Elliston and go to Spillars Cove using the Klondike Trail.
