Lighthouse Beach

Reviewed By GeauxDoug - Baton Rouge, United States

We warily made the trek to Lighthouse beach in our Nissan SUV after reading numerous reviews of the treacherous terrain/road to get there. We are so glad we made the journey to this breathtaking beach. It is everything the reviews say and more. Once the paved road ends it is about 3.5 miles on a single lane rock/sand/gravel road which takes care to navigate. You must have good ground clearance. Lighthouse bay this is the first thing you will see and where where we parked. Then it’s a short walk to lighthouse beach. You will need a 4x4 to make it up the hill and over to lighthouse beach but the walk is not difficult. The first thing you should do is walk the path up to the lighthouse and take in the view from the rock cliffs as you can see lighthouse beach (Atlantic side) and Lighthouse Bay (Bay side) from one viewpoint, it’s incredible. From there pick your spot and camp for the day. There are no facilities and make sure to take plenty of water.

Really neat cave system that holds up to its name! Tons of spider webs everywhere but we actually didn’t run into a spider...thankfully. Our niece is 8 and really loved it. Worth taking kids on this little walk in the woods. Also not marked well, it is at the end of the trail which starts across from the church. You can see on Google satellite what I mean.

We stopped here to get directions to surfers beach. Ended up loving this little shop. Bought a nice straw bahamas hat, some hot sauce and found a beautiful larimar necklace. This is a great place for gifts. Lovely lady and would return when in town.

Tarpum Bay

Small, picturesque town overlooking the waterfront, populated by artists and more than a couple goats. Clean attractive and well appointed cottage. Wifi and cable tv included.

The last time I saw swings in the water was 4 years ago in Great Exuma, Bahamas at Coco Plum Beach so needless to stay I had to stop at Tarpum Bay :) look at that water, it's Bahamas, it doesn't get any better. The swings have seen better days but it's an absolute blast to stop here even for a few minutes just to enjoy these views - check out the area as there some great views here not only at the swings but if you continue off the main road and stay along the shore - we loved it! We drove here from Governor's Harbour area on the way to Rock Sound - the drive is very pleasant and pretty relaxing/scenic for the most part so I highly recommended to anyone who likes to explore on their vacation :) TIP: we were on the way for lunch to Rock Sound but I wish we had more time and days to give any of the local spots here a shot, especially the one literally across from the swings looked very inviting - it might have been the BaySide View one, looked pretty new and very inviting!

This place is amazing. A very rough Atlantic ocean on one side and a very calm Caribbean on the other and the Blow hole is a must see also. Near the south end of the bridge

Read a review that you might see sea turtles here and it was spot on! Tons of turtles everywhere. If you have young ones that one to see them this is a great spot. Drive to the north tip of the bay and it is very protected.

Eleuthera Island Farm

Reviewed By renee457 - Washington DC, United States

We stayed in Governors Harbor and this spot was a regular stop for us to load up on fresh produce - butter lettuce, spinach, arugula, zucchini, cukes, potatoes and more. We also tried the fresh baked goods on Tues and Fri morning - really GREAT cinnamon buns reasonably priced, and a beautiful selection of fresh baked bread. They also sell homemade salsa and hot sauce, selection of fresh cheeses, coffee, plus a gift shop with spirits, tshirts, photo books and other gift items. They also sell the Geographix map set of Eleuthera that contains labeled snorkeling spots and beaches that can be hard to find without directions or a map.
