We visited on a Saturday afternoon as part of a 3 bus tour group from the U.S. At least I believe this to be our stop. If so, there is a paved, handicap accessible trail almost to a beautiful waterfall. The stream along it is down a very steep ravine. A swimming area is at the base of the waterfall. People were taking advantage of it. But that wasn’t the purpose of our visit. Our large group (more or less) got off the trail to bask in the area near where 1 Samuel 24 tells us David cut a piece of King Saul’s robe off when he was relieving himself in a nearby cave. One of our accompanying pastors retold the familiar scenario to us in this beautiful, inspirational setting.

The plants were beautiful! The history of how the gardens were planted was interesting. There were varieties of plants from places far and near.

Ein Gedi Synagogue

More questions abound concerning mysterious mosaics in the ancient Ein Gedi synagogue ruins. Constructed in the Common Era third century, the synagogue fell into destructive ruin in the 6th century. The mosaic floor has an 18-line Aramaic inscription mentions names of Patriarchs. Names of the synagogue donors/builders are also mentioned. With only the foundation and floors remaining, tents reduce weathering of the mosaic floors—and prevents sunburned archaeologists and tourists. The preservation and education about the center of a thriving Dead Sea village are what make these ruins spectacular, and earn my high rating.

We checked out the spa after spending some time down at the dead sea hot spring. The facilities were basic, but probably the best in the area. The sweeping outdoor view and relax area was really lovely. The indoor salt pool was nice as was the hammam. The lockers were fine. We did not have any services, but they seemed extensive and had good products. I will add that luxe spa facilities on the Israel side of the Dead Sea are extremely limited. Of all the choices, this one is truly the best.

Nowadays there are a few spots where to take a bath in the dead sea and Ein Gedi is one of them, I think is the closest place coming from Jerusalem. The idea is to spend the entire day, either on the swimming pool or in the beach. There's also a restaurant and most important, showers to take the salt off. Prices are affordable.
