Mountain horseback trail riding. Enjoy a trail ride on one of our gentle mountain horses. Located in the Shenandoah Mountains near Luray Va. Ranch packages, Bunkhouse Cabins and Camping available. No experience necessary. Children must be at least 8 years old and our horses cannot safely carry more than 250 lbs. Reservations are strongly suggested. Open year round, every day.
We met up with our cousins and stayed in one of the cabins for the weekend, It was well equipped and clean.
Saturday we did the half day ride up the mountain and got to look over the valley and small town below, beautiful !! Then we made our way down. Our guide was excellent, very helpful and making sure we were all together and safe.
We have our own horses but did not bring them, they are well trained and the folks at Fort Valley seem to have a great sense on what horse you should have.
The horses were awesome for all 4 of us!!
We look forward to making this a yearly event!!
The campground is clean and has lots of shade and your horse stalls should you bring your own are right next to you, which I would very much appreciate!!
Laura, Thank you for everything!!

Shenandoah Caverns has been thrilling visitors since 1922. It is the only Virginia cavern with elevator service, making it one of the easiest caverns to tour. It's also the closest major cavern to I-81 (Exit 269). Our famous bacon formations are so unusual they were featured in National Geographic. Personally guided tours through our 17 soaring rooms take approximately one hour. Also see our other attractions: Main Street of Yesteryear, American Celebration on Parade (open seasonally), and the Yellow Barn. Open all year. Located 2 minutes from I-81, Exit 269, five miles north of New Market, VA in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley. Let the exploration begin! Please keep in mind that while Shenandoah Caverns does have an elevator, it is not considered handicap accessible. The pathway is crushed gravel with slight inclines throughout the tour, so assistance is required to navigate the tour via wheelchair. There is also one small portion that is not accessible by wheelchair at all. If you are walking the tour, you must be able to stand for one hour and walk one mile. If you have any questions about accessibility, please give us a call.
This is a good tour to take and see the sights of nature at work. We appreciated the elevator and really enjoyed our young tourguide. I definitely recommend seeing this cave.

in the area checking out a campground for this summer. Factory 1/2 mile from campground! Self-guided tour and very friendly/knowledgeable staff. Free samples of ALL flavors! Don't forget to ask about "broken bag" specials. Just the smell makes your mouth water! Then you sample! Then you buy! Great fresh crafted chips. We'll stop here anytime we're with an hour's drive!!! Love it!

The mill is now a wonderful museum with period exhibits, a film, gift shop and restaurant. Displays were fascinating. The mill is one of the few to escape "The burning" during the Civil War.

This former Fire Observation Tower still is open whenever the dirt road going up there from Woodstock or from Fort Valley is open. (The Fire Tower Road is a winding dirt washboard road, closed in Winter snow...this road begins next to the Shenandoah County Government Center just off US Rt. 11 in north Woodstock). about 6 miles to the top of the ridge. There are about 120 steps winding around the inside of the legs to the observation platform. There are observational sighting directions attached to the iron railing and mesh wire platform at the top.
A 200 yard trail from the parking area is rocky and uneven, but doable for most folks (not wheelchair accessible)....the trail continues past the Fire Tower to a Hang Gliding Platform another 150 yards further along the ridge.
Spectacular Fall views, but we especially like the early Winter or Spring when leaves are still off the trees, so you get a bit better view of the famous Seven Bends of the Shenandoah River down below to the west. Best seen on a sunny day...a very special place and sometimes a bit of a Lover's Lane. (make some noise as you ascend!)

Quick detour off I81. Highly recommend!!!! Nice pull off lot just beyond one end so you can get out and walk to the bridge. Beautiful spot for photographs. First time at covered bridge for our two teens and they were even impressed.

What a fun historic vineyard and winery that was established in 1976, long before it was a popular trend in Virginia. Every drop is grown there. They have lovely whites but the smokiness of their reds was so lovely and unexpected. I bought 6 bottles and will put several away for Thanksgiving. I can't wait to return!
Not all Virginia wines are this good. This vineyard offers large acreage with a long scenic drive. There are views of tasty fat red grapes hanging off the vines and the rolling mountain ranges. You wind up at the property's renovated barn for the tasting room. I went on a Sunday around 3 pm. There were no crazy crowds. It is a fun retreat when choosing to drive through the beautiful countryside and not on the nearby Route 81 traffic jam! Bottoms Up!

Beautiful setting, nice tasting room and deck and very nice owners. We tasted 10 wines I believe and none were bad. I like some better than others and we loved that their sweet wines were actually semi-sweet with little sugar compared to many wines. We left with 2 bottles and will certainly be back. If you want to sit and enjoy some snacks and wine you'll have some great views of the countryside and mountains.

Stopped by on my way to South Carolina. A little off the beaten path. About 7 miles off the main road. Purchased a mixed case of reds and whites. No time for a tasting. Friendly service.

The Market in Woodstock, located in the heart of the Shenandoah Valley, offers natural and bulk foods, along with local valley products. Enjoy basics for everyday living such as apple butter, jams and jellies, honey, pies along with wooden utensils, knives, rugs, pottery and much more. Visit Spin-A-Yarn, our yarn shop next door for a great selection of yarn, needles and patterns.
The Market is a go-to place to purchase spices, nuts, gluten free products, and any health food item one can imagine. Additionally, the Market carries natural remedies, such as a cream for pulled muscles that beats anything I have ever used previously. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable, helpful, and willing to do whatever they can to make one's time in the store a positive experience. An added feature, adjacent to the Market, is the yarn shop (one of the few between Winchester and Staunton off I-81), which carries a plethora of knitting supplies and a vast array of yarns to fit any budget. There is a comfortable area in which knitters of all abilities meet, swap stories and patterns, and help one another with various knitting/crocheting projects. Travelers, including a woman from Ireland, trekking down I-81 have been known to stop by the Market to pick up something and then have stayed a few hours to join the sit and knit group. All this is testimony to the warmth and friendliness of the place. Who needs "Cheers" when you have "The Market"!
