The Glacier Lagoon at Jokulsarlon is a very special place - it is where the mighty Vatnajökull glacier dips into the Atlantic. The landscape of smaller or bigger icebergs that broke into the water from the glacier and slowly drift towards the ocean is amazing. You can actually pick up. little boulders of ice that have been washed onto the shore. This must rank with the ten or twelve most awesome natural sites that I have seen..... and it's worth the long drive from Reykjavik to see.

I was so looking forward to this, and it certainly did not disappoint. Beautiful beach with gorgeous icebergs and black sand. Quite busy at the main part, but as soon as you start walking down the beach you're alone.

Beautiful area to do some hiking and see the big glaciers of Vatnajökull. You can choose your own route and difficulty, but if you're able you should definitely go up route 55 or 56 to the edge of the glacier.

This town has a idyllic backdrop against a very good reflection pool (small pond) with the famous Blue Church. With the snowy mountains backdrop and wintry cold, this little very beautiful small village is very quaint and photogenic to capture. The pics are captivating in an equally stunningly quiet and peaceful backdrop. Does not feel real. The wow factor is definitely strong and equally too is thrilling high mountain ride all the way from Egilsstadir town. The drive across snow capped mountain are so emotionally beautiful with fresh soft snow all across the 30 min ride with foggy sights strewn along the pass.

We parked at the other parking, not the main one, and walked the small trail (marked as red - difficult) up the hill. It is not really difficult, only compared to the other way from the main parking marked as blue, it is more wild (& more fun) :) In total it took us 2h walking up, staying and the waterfall taking fotos and coming back down. Be careful as some part of the trail might be covered by ice in winter (very slippery).

Fardagafoss is located close to the road to Seydisfjördur, a few kilometres out of Egilsstadir. There is a hike of about 30 Minutes from the parking area up to the waterfall. On the way you'll have a nice view to Egilsstadir and the lake Lagarfljot.

Really cozy camping spot by Lagarfljót in Hallormsstaðarskógur. Sheltered forest area with nice footpaths in the forest - great for families with children.
