Our first outing back here since lockdown. Four of us and a dog, we booked a table in advance. Staff were great, food was great.. even the dog ate most of his sausages (which we didn't expect - chosen from the main menu without mash, just for him) so a thumbs up from him too!! We will be back! We stayed longer than anticipated and had a few more drinks too.. all good!

The Speedwell is a beautiful, traditional pub with pleasing, dark wood fittings that include a superb gantry that displays their famed selection of fine whisky. The curved bar is split in the middle by a charming wood and glass screen that effectively creates a snug, and there are also two separate, ultra-cosy snugs off the bar. Service here was smart, friendly and efficient, and I thought that the three young people behind the bar exuded pride in the job and sheer professionalism. They are a credit to the business. This bar is probably a mile from the city centre, but as it is undoubtedly one of the finest bars in the city, it is well worth seeking out. Highly recommended.

The Wine Press is one of my favourite places in Dundee for a night out at the moment, I’ve always had a brilliant time whenever I’ve been. The staff are always so friendly and helpful, the wine selection is enormous and the food platters are so good-the cheese in particular. I also love the modern-rustic decor of the venue. If you’re looking for somewhere classy and a bit different that doesn’t smash the bank balance then this is the place!

Down a very insalubrious-looking alleyway, with no sign on the door to let you know you have come to the right place, you really need to know where you are going! But the surprise inside is brilliant. Old wooden “elevators” show there are two ways you can go; up or down. We went upstairs first to The Blue Room, where Alice, the quirky Australian bartender, fixed me a gin fizz that was out of this world. Followed by two more! The decorations are excellent, dark walls, potted plants, shell-shaped chairs, funky tiles, impressive gantry. Jazz and cool music choices give this bar a fabulous atmosphere. A very warm welcome from the staff and a friendly group of customers made this a brilliant experience. We also popped down to look at the other bar which has a speakeasy feel and again friendly staff to explain the history of the building and the plans for the future. If you are in Dundee, this place is well worth a visit.

Take centre stage at MALBAR, the venue that shakes things up with a famous list of classic and quirky cocktails, expertly mixed by your supporting cast. At night, MALBAR comes alive, with Malmaison's gorgeous guests mingling with Dundee's finest to create an atmosphere like no other. Ice cold beer, Champagne by the bucket load, celebrity spotting and cocktail slurping. By day, it's 'quiet on the set' at MALBAR Dundee, with lattés and croissants replacing the lights and cocktails, and a laid back vibe, perfect for business or simply for lounging.
