Ellisland Farm, the rural home of Scottish National Bard Robert Burns, which he built for himself and his family in 1788. The place which inspired him to write some of his most famous poems including Auld Lang Syne and Tam O' Shanter. Visit the room in which he wrote these works and discover more about farm life in rural Dumfriesshire in the late 18th century. Along with the historic house and displays you can also explore the farmyard, farm buildings and take a walk along the river Nith with fabulous displays of flora and wildlife.

Came here whilst on holiday with our Husky, he was very happy and loved the walk to the top for the gorgeous views! The trees are huge, it’s very quiet and a lovely place to escape for an hour.

This bridge used to be the old A 75 to Stranraer now a bypass on the outskirts . It is well known for its scenic views of the River Nith . Built in 1793 ,the architect was Thomas Boyd. It was substantially rebuilt and widened in 1893 by the gift of Miss Mckie.......the work was carried out by James Barbour and Sir William Arrol . There are information plaques on the bridge . I came across an interesting footnote that the Duke of Buccleugh would not allow access to the bridge until a warrant of £1000 was paid ! (a substantial amount of money in those days)
