Zarkovica Animal Shelter

Reviewed By jdbruk - Shenyang, China

I visited on a nice sunny day. This outdoor facility is a spartan compound, lots of dogs and only two volunteers. Both were busy, but accessible to my observations and a few questions I had... a few stories about a few of the dogs and even new puppies! There is the genuine love for the animals there. I kept my visit to a little bit over an hour because I did not wish to affect any time constraints on them... the dogs come first. I just wanted to enjoy this day and make a few of the dogs happy with some attention. After my departure, I checked out the Zarkovica website.. needless to say, the homepage floored me. The photo is of the shelter in Winter... with the caption, "The Temporary Home For Over Three Hundred Dogs In Dubrovnik..". I take those few words as part of their mission statement. I hope their success! Every Tripadvisor pic is happy people, happy dogs, sunshine & smiles. I was thinking of all the dogs there.. maybe fortunate in survival but are damn cold in the Winter. The welfare of the dogs depends on the time and care of these volunteers. Give generously, do what you can, volunteer your time, help them.. the dogs, the volunteers will love you for it, & of course you will feel better too & be a much better person for it.

Lovric Winery

We are a family owned winery in Lumbarda that produces wine by generations. We offer two premium wines - white wine Grk and red wine Plavac. Feel free to visit us.

We are so glad we booked this experience in advance. I don't think we would ever think back on our time in Croatia without remembering the time we spent at this winery as we had the best experience that was far beyond our expectations. This family have a huge history here and we loved learning all about it. Now we have a new appreciation for our wine in New Zealand as the forerunner to introduce wines to our country came from the Nobilo family, here in Lombardy. We have had many winery tours, this personalised one was the best. It was such a reasonable cost for delicious and generous wines and food.

Far and away our favourite vineyard visited. Run by a really friendly husband and wife whose have owned the vineyard for generations. Great spot, great view, great wine and great hosts, basically everything you need. We took the water taxi from Korcula old town and a lovely 25 min walk through the countryside to get there.

Lokrum Island

Amazing island, with plenty of things to do and discover: botanical garden, Dead Sea, olive groves, beautiful views, with many peacocks and rabbits around, old Benedictine monastery, exhibition and info on Game of Thrones as well. Very nice playground and volleyball/ soccer playgrounds. Don’t forget to bring your swimwear: you have many places to take a refreshing bath on the rocks (and showers as well). We arrived with our sailing boat and moored in the southern bay, there are boats from Dubrovnik harbor departing every now and then to reach the island!

Entrance here is included in your ticket if you have walked the city walls. It's a little bit of a trek to get here from the main city, so be aware of that if you have mobility issues, but it's well worth it. You pass stunning scenery on the way (and stuff you'll recognise if you're a Game of Thrones fan), and the fort itself is fascinating and provides amazing views back towards the city and over the bay/sea. Definitely worth checking out.

Definitely a must to visit, it was really beautiful with lots of places to sit around the lake. The water is clear and the national park is very clean. Take a bike ride around the lakes or hire a canoe, we did both

Beautiful city to explore the streets and look at architecture or if you are a game of thrones fan a chance to visit the set!! The main downside is the number of tour groups which crowd the streets so get there early or later in the day to avoid the majority.
