Boyne Boats Adventure

Paddle the Route Travelled by Stone Age Farmers with a Legendary Boat Builder Boyne River | Adventure | Nature | Mythology | Battle of the Boyne | Artisan Food | Game of Thrones According to ancient legend, the Boyne River was created by the Celtic queen and goddess Boann who symbolises water, fertility, and inspiration. The legend gives an insight into the serene beauty of this ancient river that has lured visitors ever since Stone Age farmers settled in the Boyne Valley. More than 6,000 years ago, these farmers created the burial tombs of Brú Na Bóinne along the Boyne River bend. Through Boyne Boats, the mythology of the past brings us to the mythology of the present because Ross Kenny (founder of Boyne Boats) is a well-known boat builder who featured in and supplied the boats for the hugely successful Game of Thrones series. In fact, the skilfully hand-crafted, traditional Irish currachs used by Ross in Game of Thrones are used by Ross in the Boyne Boats experience too.

This wonderful monastic site with extensive and interesting ruins is perfect for a self-guided tour given the high quality of the sign-boards. Hearing the chant emmanating from the ruins was quite a magical experience. There are no guided tours at the moment because of Covid 19 but we met with Louis who was giving out work-sheets to families - he was very helpful, invited our questions and was very knowledgeable. This is a great OPW site which is well worth a visit. It is very suitable for families, a great place for a picnic or family walk amid the well-kept and wonderfully spacious grounds.

Quel surprise!!! We were greeted by Raymond, a superb host! We were shown to our fabulous room with amazing bay windows and superb bathroom with wet room shower and free standing bath. Amazing view overlooking the courtyard where I was able to lie on the chaise longue watching visitors come and go...and was jealous of those attending the amazing gin school!! We met Raymond at breakfast in the tearoom both mornings where we had fabulous coffee & croissants to compliment the continental breakfast. Raymond happily gave us on the history of Listoke which was so interesting. We then were given a tour of the gin school...A...MAZING!! Can't wait to re visit Listoke and experience a full Gin school experience!! Ps had the best relaxing time and went into Drogheda to a restaurant recommended by Raymond...soon good we went twice!! Have raved about this place all day and have already booked a friend in before I left. Raymond WE WILL BE BACK!! Thankyou
