Legend has it that notorious pirate Sir Francis Drake hid his treasures somewhere in Drake Bay, hence the name. Doubloons or not, there are plenty of natural treasures to marvel over, like lush rainforests and colorful sea life. Invest in a guided hiking, diving, fishing, tubing or treetop canopy tour to get the full Drake Bay experience. “Tracie the Bug Lady” even offers a night tour to acquaint you with all of the local creepy crawlies.

I had an incredible experience hiking Sirena with my guide, Steven Madi. Steven's knowledge of the flora and fauna of Corcovado is mind blowing. Every question you have about any bird, mammal, insect, plant, or fungus you encounter will be met with a detailed answer that helps you gain a deeper understanding of the intricacies of the forest. Steven imitates the calls of birds and monkeys to attract them to you so that you'll have a breathtakingly close encounter. He knows how to read animal footprints in the mud and even smell the air for signs of peccaries and monkeys. He spots highly camouflaged animals that I never would have seen with the naked eye, and he leads you into the brush to gain an even closer look. At one point, I found myself less than 3 feet away from a peaceful tapir--what an experience! I noticed that Steven was often just as excited as I was to spot wildlife that he sees every single day, and I realized this is because of the deep respect for animals and passion that he has for his work as a guide. Steven himself is an extremely kind, patient, and professional guide. He has a calming presence, which I felt was important in a wild place like Sirena where it's common to feel nervous about what you might encounter. I thoroughly enjoyed spending 2 days hiking with Steven and came away from the experience with a deep respect for the wildlife of Corcovado. I highly recommend Steven as a guide and know that when I return to Corcovado (and I absolutely will!) I will without a doubt make sure I hire Steven as my guide again. Side note: if you are looking to practice your Spanish, Steven will oblige! I told him I wanted to work on my Spanish and he went out of his way to tell me all the names of plants and animals in both English and Spanish, as well as their scientific Latin names, and even when they evolved and what they evolved from. His breadth of knowledge is genuinely amazing.

Walter actually scheduled several tours and travels for us, even though he was actually birding in Florida at the time. Roy took us to the Corcovado Sirena Ranger Station. He was an excellent guide, first finding out what we were especially interested in and then trying to track it down. We were hot on the trail of fresh tapir tracks but never quite saw it, not for lack of trying! Still, we saw two varieties of mannikins, lots of monos, peccaries and coati, and several larger birds which were a first for us, as well as the usual cast of tropical characters (birds). The Sirena Station was open for lunch, and we had a nice "buffet" with careful covid restrictions. Walter also arranged lodging at La Perla and a mangrove tour at Sierpe, as well as transport from sierpe to San Gerardo de Dota. Everything went off without a hitch and on time. What a great job!

This tour was an AMAZING tour for my daughter and I. We shared a boat with Divers and had the amazing Deyanira, who seems to be very skilled and native in the water. She pointed out amazing sea turtles, awesome schools of fish, coral, and we even saw an eel and (friendly) shark! So wondrous swimming in these beautiful waters, and the boat crew was great too, navigating waters with great skill and even stopping when we spotted some sea turtles coming up for air. We did a few rain forest hikes and really enjoyed all that the magical land of Costa Rica has to offer, but the magic of this special South Pacific sea can not be missed! Deyanira was amazing!
San pedrillo Ranger station is a unique place with an impressive primary forest and it is located right on the beach. The chances to see a big cat in the evening are high.

The experience was very special. Walking down the river in slow pace, taking time to feel the experience and enjoy the many animals active and hunting at night was great. Plenty of snakes, frogs and spiders, for which we took all the time to enjoy. The music of the night in the jungle is another this that should really impress everyone. I strongly advice to take the time for this special adventure.
Sirena station is about an hour boat ride, this park tour will take you deeper in the rainforest where you will have a chance to see species such as Tapirs, Monkies and Peccaries. Erick the owner helped us with every question we had! Really great. I recommend Corcovado Day Trip and the scuba diving/snorkeling! Don’t do the night walk. That is way to expensive.
