Quebec City may be the only fortified city north of Mexico, but it welcomes visitors with open arms. Explore the Citadel, where you might catch Canadian troops staging a military ceremony. As for food, you could splurge on afternoon tea at the Chateau Frontenac, or do as the locals do and snack on poutine—french fries with gravy and cheese curds.

This famous town plaza is the heart of historic Lower Town and has been an important social center since the city's founding.
There was a deep blanket of snow because of a blizzard the day we arrived, but it's amazing how quickly they get the snow out of the narrow old roads in lower town. Beautiful square with stone buildings up to 300 years old capped by snow, pedestrians only, almost like a fairy tale. There's even a modern, clean public washroom just off the square.

Numerous artists gather on this crowded Lower Town street to display their work.
These booths have art either by the person attending the booth or by others they represent. Either way, some very good art especially engravings of one sort and another. Check in with Patrick near the St. Anne end--representing a couple of superior artists and a great conversationalist and story teller.

This town plaza is usually filled with an array of amateur performers.
Hotel de ville is French for City Hall. So you should not be surprise to learn that the Place de Hotel de Ville is right in front of the City Hall. This square is nice to sit and enjoy the fountain/splash pad that kids love and see other historical building surrounding including the Notre Dame de Quebec Basilicl. You are also very close to the Muse de l’Amerique Francophone.
