This was a stop on our trip at a local yarn store. There were some beautiful hand dyed yarns available, along with some kits with those yarns. The owner was delightful and gave me options of other ways to incorporate two hand dyed yarns into my project. She provided me with alternate instructions. Very pleasant and wonderful stop.

Art museum focusing on provincial and Canadian artwork in various mediums.
There's so much here to like! We love how they used two of the historic buildings in downtown Halifax and joined them underground to make one larger gallery - possibly inspired by the Louvre. All the exhibits we saw on our visit in October were well thought out, and presented in a contemporary way. The highlight of our visit was the Maude Lewis exhibit, where they brought in the actual house she lived in, as well as an astounding collection of her work. What a tribute to an amazing artist! The other exhibits were interesting as well, especially a gigantic work by Ken Monkman. There's even a convenient, on-site restaurant. Having experienced how well they do what they do here, we would unreservedly recommend this for any visitor to the city with an hour to spare.

As Canada’s only maker of mouth-blown, hand-cut crystal, our mission is to preserve the ancient craft, innovate designs and create art that is functional. Crowds gather at our Glassworks door on the Halifax Waterfront to watch master craftsmen turn molten crystal into stunning wine glasses, bowls, vases and other works of art. Next door in our Showroom, discover a variety of beautifully finished pieces. The Glassworks operates Monday through Friday, and the Showroom is open 7 days a week for your shopping convenience. Closed Sundays in winter.
We stopped at the small sub-store on the promenade where the inventory selection was smaller than the larger warehouse building. Make sure you go to the larger building. The assortment of crystal was overwhelming, and it took me a long time to pick just a single piece as a souvenir, but they do make a dated ornament which met my criteria. Don't miss this local gem (pun intended.)

While attending a convention, I walked by a fascinating shop, Jennifer's of Nova Scotia, and let me share with you that one visit was not enough. Jennifer's features the superb craftsmanship of some of the finest artisans in all of Atlantic Canada. Pottery, glass, jewelry, food items, art... I saw a small canvas painting by J. Marshall Burgess which I immediately purchased. The manner and care that Jennifer's employee, Kyla, exuded in so carefully packing and sending me my painting was diligent and beyond thoughtful. The store's Halifax location, the quality, and diversity of their offerings AND, not to be overlooked, their employees all obviously contribute to a winning, successful combination for artists, craftsmen, merchants and shoppers. You'll likely be welcomed the moment you step in the shop, and the courteous help, knowledge, and care of the staff is so enjoyable. It truly makes shopping for that perfect gift a very pleasurable experience. And don't forget to gift yourself a purchase at Jennifer's: I am glad I did! Oh yes, let me extend my heartfelt wishes and congratulations in observing your "HAPPY 40th Anniversary in 2018" to Jennifer's of Nova Scotia!!!!!
