We came upon this museum almost by chance. The church is just out of Chideock off A35 (be patient with signage) with a small car park. Beautiful building in a serene location which belies the history of Catholic persecution. The museum is in a small anteroom accessed from inside the church. It was simply amazing - full of local history, artefacts, photos, exhibits, etc and with an incredibly informative story of the history of local Catholicism. We were absolutely blown away - not professionally curated but all the better for that. Don't miss it!

Consecrated in 1865, St. Peter's Church is situated on the hill above Eype, looking out over Lyme Bay. In 2003, it was reordered and opened as an Arts Centre. As well as weekly church services (6.30pm summer, 3pm winter), it is open for many Arts events, including Exhibitions and Concerts. Details of these are on Facebook. When nothing is scheduled, visitors are welcomed 2-5pm on Saturdays.
Lovely little church that regularly hosts art exhibitions. The church is still used as a church and offers a great location for exhibitions by locally based professional and amateur artists. Have visited the art exhibitions many times, but sadly no art exhibitions on when we visited this time, because of covid 19. There is car parking and lovely views over the surrounding countryside.

This building has been a center of prayer since its establishment as a Benedictine nunnery in 705AD. It contains the Chained Library, which is one of the UK's first lending libraries.
what can I say this is a place of worship, all are welcome, freindly and welcoming, quiet areas for private pracyer, always people on hane, facinating chain library, dog friendly

A delightfully enigmatic site that shows the combination of the old religions and the new. It's a perfect place to relax or meditate due to its calming atmosphere. Be sure not to miss the nearby trees near the rear right side of the church. Inside this green thicket is a wishing tree, where you can leave a ribbon or trinket, if you choose. Parking is limited to 2-3 cars close to the site. Well worth a visit. Highly recommended!
