Hambledon Hill

I love this hill and it’s history. Many years ago I participated in an archaeological dig here and vowed to return! Luckily the weather was excellent and views well worth the climb. We also visited the nearby Hod Hill which is also well worth the effort.

Maiden Castle

Reviewed By petersL830TM

Maiden Castle offers a brilliant free outing for anything from a spare half hour stroll to a half day exploring and picnicing. There is a large free car park and clearly marked and well maintained paths up to the remarkable three rampart and ditch system surrounding an extensive grassy plateau. The elevated position offers excellent views all round, including down to Dorchester and Poundbury, and the chalky subsoil drains fast so it is good for most weathers and dries out fast after rain. A natural delight for both adults and children.

Sandsfoot Castle

Reviewed By Minkykiwi - Esher, United Kingdom

We stumbled upon this when going for a walk - gorgeous little garden which was beautifully landscaped, and a well restored castle overlooking the sea - with great signage and historical information we were delighted to have discovered this little gem. Do go if you are in Weymouth. There is also a little coffee shack nearby and it would be a fab place to have a picnic on a nice day.

Wareham Saxon Wall Walk

Reviewed By Drew186305 - Crich, United Kingdom

It is interesting that because much of the outside of the city is un-developed, it gives you a real perspective of just how high and impressive these walls must have been. We took a walk around the entire length which took about 40 minutes. There are some beautiful views, especially on the North side. Make sure you stop and read the information boards.
