Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad National Historical Park

Opened in March 2017, the Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad Visitor Center invites visitors to experience Tubman’s world through exhibits that are informative and emotive. Visitors have the opportunity to understand Tubman’s early years spent in the Choptank River region of Maryland along with the resistance movement of the Underground Railroad.

After visiting this museum and studying the exhibits, Harriet Tubman will no longer be just a name in a history book. I learned so much about her life and story, presented in a very understandable and enjoyable format. There were videos and also a new movie introducing Tubman and the park. The bookstore has a lot of books on Tubman -- although my favorite from when my kids were young (Follow the Drinking Gourd) was not there! The park is an excellent introduction to Tubman and the underground railroad. We then drove around on the Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad Byway and learned even more! We listened to the downloadable audio at each stop (or along the way) and it just made the whole story come alive.
