Southwest Colorado's premier archaeological museum, featuring the Ancestral Puebloans (Anasazi) and other Native American cultures, including two archaeological sites and a research collection of over 3 million artifacts.
I have a degree in Anthropology and a focused interest in the ancient cultures of the Southwestern Native Americans. This museum tells it all. If you're going to Mesa Verde, then you might as well go here to. BTW, the staff is excellent!

A complete and accurate history of the Galloping Goose train & railroad routes through Southern Colorado from the early mining days in the 1800's to present. An excellent chance to ride the train too, once the COVID19 political campaign ends.

Our family of 5 (with 3 kids ages 9, 13 and 15) did a 2-hour horseback ride at Circle K this past week. The location is absolutely stunning (we drove from Telluride)! Our wranglers were so kind, professional, knowledgeable and helpful for us as beginners. The horses were wonderful and well cared for. The ride was beautiful! We all had an amazing time and plan to go back next year! Would definitely recommend this place for horseback riding, and they are one of the few places that will allow younger kids to ride.

Viewed from above at the Anasazi Heritage center, just gorgeous. Stopped by en route (after leaving the center) to the Lowry Pueblos and glad we did for yet more lovely views. Not boaters, so can't comment on that aspect but we thoroughly enjoyed just the scenery itself. Definitely worth a stop.

If you are traveling through Dolores, Colorado, don't miss the Public Library next to the US Post Office on the north bank of the Dolores River on Railroad Avenue near downtown. I hear you saying..."What? a library?" Yes! and it is one of the most architecturally beautiful small intimate libraries in Colorado. You can view the rapids of the Dolores River through the windows, sit on the back deck under large cottonwood trees at water's edge, experience the massive stone fireplace inside, and even borrow books, DVDs, and use free computers and Wi-fi! This is a fine place to retreat with a book or a sketch pad. Children welcome. Something for everyone who loves books and a beautiful setting for them.
