Gupt Ganga Temple

Reviewed By Abhishekindya - Jammu City, India

Gupt Ganga Temple is situated on the east of the Bhaderwah on the bank of river Neru at a distance of 0.5 km from the city centre near the first bridge on Bhadarwah Jai Road, is the old Shiv temple, made of purely stone slabs. It has a tomb like construction and long stone slabs have been used in it. Here Ganga abruptly falls on the Lingam and then disappears. Inside the temple, there is also a footprint of Bhimsen on a rock. There is a long cave said to have been used by the Pandavas to reach Kashmir from Bhadarwah during the period of their Agyat-Vaas. . This is famous historical pilgrim place. The domb of the temple is made of Stones in a circular shape. A stream of pure water flows from inside of the temple and drops on the ShivLing day and night. The whole sight is so attractive that visitors desire to go on seeing it again and again . the inside water then flows to a “Bawali” (Pond) where Sadhus, devitees and visitors take bath. The water of the Bawali is cold in summer and warm in winter. Since the stream of water comes into the temple in a hidden mysterious way, and the water of this stream is considered as sacred as the water of the Ganga, so it is called Gupt Ganga.

Chinta Valley

Reviewed By 76tanmayg - New Delhi, India

Chinta Valley is located about 20 km from Bhaderwah town, which is 30 km from the district headquarters of Doda in Jammu region of the state of Jammu n Kashmir. Bhaderwah is also known as mini kashmir. Bhaderwah can be reached from Jammu (around 190 kms) or from Chamba/Dalhousie in Himachal (140 - 150 kms). The town of Bhaderwah and surroundings are beautiful and actually remind you of Kashmir. The place is still unknown to people of other far off places. People from Jammu, Chamba,Kashmir and other nearby areas are aware of this place. Bhaderwah town has a population of more than fifty thousand and is on the banks of river Neru, which is a tributary of the river Chenab. Chinta Valley is around 20 km uphill in North-east direction from Bhaderwah town. Further a few more kms away (around 10 km) is the amazing Jai Valley (pronounced jaaee ). It has beautiful clean streams flowing amidst mountains where one can spend days with unpolluted nature. The best part is that the place can be visited by both families and backpackers. There are igloo huts available for groups for as low as Rs 1200. One can get a bed in a clean and well maintained dormitory for only Rs 200 in the youth hostel. There are rooms available as well for rs 1500 with attached washrooms. One can go for camping as well within the premises of the youth hostel as well.Youth Hostel is located away from the igloo huts and other places to stay so that backpackers are not disturbed by the family rush on weekends. Having said that, the place is still not much visited and is a perfect getaway for backpackers, solo travellers and people looking to spend some time in nature. There are a few huts near the youth hostel where the local shepherds, the Gurjars, live. Youth hostel is government owned and was inaugurated by Ghulam Nabi Azad in the year 2009. Contact 09858285027 Mr Dharmendra or Vicki, he works in the youth hostel and can be a guide to nearby treks.
