Dnipro (Ukrainian: Дніпро), until May 2016 Dnipropetrovsk (Ukrainian: Дніпропетро́вськ [ˌdʲnʲiprɔpɛˈtrɔu̯sʲk]) or Dnepropetrovsk (Russian: Днепропетро́вск [dʲnʲɪprəpʲɪˈtrofsk]), is Ukraine's fourth largest city, with about one million inhabitants. It is 391 kilometres (243 mi) southeast of the capital Kiev on the Dnieper River, in the south-central part of Ukraine. Dnipro is the administrative centre of the Dnipropetrovsk Oblast. Administratively, it is incorporated as a city of oblast significance, the centre of Dnipro municipality and extraterritorial administrative centre of Dnipro Raion. Its population is approximately 976,525 (2017 est.).

The museum was founded in 1849 and is one of the oldest in Ukraine. The museum includes several departments: 1. History Museum 2. The diorama of the battle for the Dnieper 3. ATO Museum 4. This museum covers a wide range of history & does it well. Inside the museum there are natural history exhibits that take you back thousands of years. There are also many historical exhibits that cover the past 300-400 years. Outside there is a special exhibit on the 2014 Russian annexation of the Crimea that is outstanding. There are also several pieces of Soviet military equipment outside that range from the present to WW II. This museum has something for everybody.
