Vermeer’s birthplace and a true gem, Delft sits between The Hague and Rotterdam in the country’s southwest. The city’s name comes from the Dutch word for digging, fitting since canals are a highlight here. Others include the 13th-century Old Church, the 15th-century New Church and the Prinsenhof, once home to William of Orange and now a museum. Delft has long been a center for fine ceramics, and traditional hand painting methods can still be witnessed at Koninklijke Porceleyne Fles.

The Blue Tulip, launched in 1997, is a small factory (studio) in Delft, where the famous Delft pottery Delftware is made and fully brushstoked according to tradition. By maintaining this ancient tradition, the Dutch Delft rightly gained the worldwide reputation and fame. The painters do decorate by hand, down to the smallest detail. Every product bearing the trademark'' Blue Tulip'': a blue tulip, the initials'' SR "and the words'' Delft Holland''. In the small factory The Blue Tulip people can watch the Delft painter working at the product.

Van Renssen is one of the oldest cigar stores. Our historic building is located on one of the most beautiful canals, the heart of the old town in Delft. We have 4 familygenerations of knowlegde of cigars and tobacco, this is shown by the large range of cigars, tobacco pipes and pipe tobacco to choose from. If the choice is too difficult, you can get an expert opinion. A large assortment of Dutch cigars and also Cuban and Dominican cigars in the humidor. we are one of the few tobacco specialists that are highly specialized in tobacco pipes and pipe tobacco. But also our range of lighters, humidors and beard aquipment is worth to come see.
The 4th generation owner of this cozy tobacco store is super friendly. Her and her husband speak excellent English and are willing to patiently describe the various cigars and local Dutch brands. I was introduced to a medium taste Balmoral recommended by the owner which was absolutely delightful. Prices are very good but you do have to keep in mind that not all cigars may be cheaper than you can get "at home". However, certain types or kinds of cigars may also not be in stock or not available "at home". If you're in Delft and would like to enjoy a pleasant cigar, even if you're not sure what you are in the mood to smoke - head over and talk to the wonderful owners at van Renssen!

My name is Isabella Kaizer and since 5 years the owner of the House of Vermeer shop. My parents started the store back in 1973 as Delft Blue Pottery, somewhat later, my father turned it into the Royal Delft Blue Shop and since March 2014 I have changed the name to House of Vermeer, because the shop “House Mechelen” is a unique building who deserves this name. Mechelen house is the house where Johannes Vermeer lived for a very long time. In our shop we sell authentic handpainted Delftware pottery such as Porceleyne fles but also of smaller factories such as, Montagne and the Blue Tulip. We also sell lovely Dutch gadgets like Cow Parade and My-Gifts christmas ornaments, but also Barcino and The Elephant Parade. We also manufacture our own jewelry under the label “Delft Blue Beads”. We design and make our jewelry since 2009. We can also provide premium gifts, but if you want something bespoke you can always call or email us for any queries.
