Dahlonega sits at the southern terminus of the Appalachian Trail on Springer Mountain. It was the site of the first major U.S. gold rush—in 1828, 20 years before the California gold rush. Dahlonega's commercial district is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It’s home to wineries,a thriving performing and visual arts scene and plenty of outdoor activities all year round.

Our goal at Georgia Mountain Falconry is to provide a comprehensive group of services that will provide our clients with the solutions to their needs. If you are looking for a day in the mountains to get a front row seat watching the hunting prowess of a Red-tailed Hawk, we’ve got it for you. If you are dealing with feathered or furry pests, we’ve got your answer. If you want to educate others about some of God’s greatest creatures, we’ll bring them to you and give you an up close & personal look into the raptors of this “Sport of Kings.” And if you are already involved in falconry, we can provide you with a quality hunting partner along with the nutrition to keep her flying.
This was a birthday gift for my husband who is a bird lover. Buster and his colleagues brought quite a few birds for us to see - a small Screech Owl that was adorable and loved to have his head scratched, a larger Eagle Owl, several hawks and a Falcon. We were able to interact with several of the birds. One hawk (the Harris's Hawk) flew from the owner to land on your glove for a snack. The crew was very knowledgeable and answered all our questions and spent quite a bit of time with us. We would highly recommend booking an experience with Buster!

If you are near Dahlonega or Dawsonville, Georgia, you are not far from the Dahlonega Butterfly Farm. If you are interested in butterflies for any reason, this is a terrific place to visit. While it is modest in size compared to the Cecil B. Day Butterfly Center in Callaway Gardens, I actually saw and had an opportunity to photograph a great many more butterflies than I did at my last visit to the Day Butterfly Center. This is a new nature attraction, and there are plans for future expansion.

This is more of a walk than a hike but it’s a beautiful walk. You follow the edge of the lake. Cross over a few streams. Great way to spend a few hours in nature.

This isn't a big zoo. This is like a rescue with birds, monkeys, baboons, bears, donkeys, zebras, a zedonk, a bison, an ox-thing, emus, horses, tigers, maybe an alligator. You can get food to feed some of them, and the whole circuit is about 1/4 mile. I give it 5 stars because it is close and it is still a sweet little place. So, set your expectations for a good petting zoo, where the animals are well-behaved and clean.

We are the largest lavender farm open to the public in Georgia and grow about 3,000 lavender plants of 15 different varieties, flower gardens, and a wonderful French themed Lavender Shop with everything Lavender. Growing lavender in Georgia is very difficult, due to Georgia's large amount of rainfall, acidic clay soil, and high humidity. Lavender is a Mediterranean plant and prefers drought conditions and not so long hot summers. Be aware all Lavender farms are at the farmer’s home to constantly check lavender plants. Online shop too.
This is a neat spot for those folks who enjoy natural lavender. While they had already harvested the lavender, it was drying in the store and smelled amazing. Just about any product you can imagine - even lavender chocolate!
