Spend The Night Aboard The Battleship TEXAS!That's right. You and a group of friends can actually spend the night aboard this huge Battleship. Sleep where the actual sailors who lived on her bunked down for the night.Battleship TEXAS was commissioned in 1914 and is the only surviving US Navy ship to have served in both WW I and WW II. The Battleship TEXAS become the Nations first Battleship museum on 21 April 1948. Located at the San Jacinto Battleground State Historic Site in La Porte, Texas (just out side of Houston, TX). We are open daily to the public 7 days a week from 10am - 5:30pm. The ship is under the care of Texas Parks and Wildlife. The Battleship Texas Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization which works closely with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) for the preservation, restoration and presentation of the world's last dreadnought-type battleship, the historic Battleship TEXAS. The BTF sponsors the Overnight Education program where we host any group size from 15 up to 78 people, from the Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, Schools, Church Youth Groups, US Naval Sea Cadets, NJROTC, ROTC units, and any other interested parties. Being a war history afficianado I make it point to visit any war museums, war history site etc. in whichever city possible. I did it in Arnhem, Neijmegen, Munich, Wörgl and many places. Naturally Houston wasn't an exception when I learnt about this place of attraction.
The former US Navy Battleship USS Texas which participated in the invasion of Normandy during World War 2 is berthed at this very site. Incidentally, the San Jacinto Monument where Texas fought their last victorious war to gain independence from Mexico is also located very close by. So if you travel to the monument or the Battleship, you can cover both the sites.
The ship has been restored to remind the American people about it's glorious past. There is continuous repair work which is still carried on because of the age of the ship but that doesn't stop people from visiting this museum warship.
Certain areas of the ship in the upper and the lower decks are locked but largely there are sufficient areas which one can visit. The most interesting place on the ship are the guns on the portside and the starboard side. While the firing mechanisms have been disabled due to safety reasons, one can sit on the gunners seat and still steer the guns in any direction. This is a major attraction on the ship for all visitors.
The captain's quarters, the officers dining area, the bridge are all sealed museum. One can view the areas but cannot enter the enclosure. Videos of the veterans who served on this ship are played on several TV sets spread across the lower deck.
Another major attraction is the bow of the ship. It gives an awesome view of the San Jacinto Monument and also the massive guns. This part of the ship is a major photoshoot area with everyone lining up to get selfies or a group photo.
Entry to the area is by buying tickets. Entry to US armed forces members or veterans are free. The adjoining park offers a good place for a family picnic.
However one drawback which I can point out is the proximity to the nearest town or travel access to this place. One should definitely have a car and there are no public transport available in and to this area. If someone has no car (Like me), they can use the services of Uber cabs. They do take some time to get there but the cabs do come there to pick up or drop travellers.
Overall a great place for history buffs.

Stonebridge at Newport is an undiscovered treasure in Houston’s northeast corridor for the golfing enthusiast as well as the corporate event and meeting planner. Discreetly located in the natural forest of East Lake Houston, but only 30 minutes from downtown Houston and major airports, this public course was once a stop on the LPGA circuit. If you are looking for beautiful fairways, a challenging round, accessibility and personal service, then Stonebridge at Newport is the place for you.
I have gone several times to the Thursday night dinner and Texas Holdem game. The food was very good and good portions. I would recommend eating there any time and the price is fare. The bar is open and the Beer cold.Hi, Russell. Thanks for taking the time to review us! It is great to hear that the hard work our team is putting into events has paid off. We look forward to seeing you again soon! Thanks for visiting Stonebridge at Newport.

Site of battle resulting in Texas's independence from Mexico.
There is an interesting museum located in the base of the monument, together with a shop and toilet facilities
the monument is an impressive sight as it the reflection pool, located in a large park. it is close to the USS Texas Battleship which makes a good combined visit

This water park is perfect for young families. This was our first visit with our grown kids and their young children. The park is very clean. There are numerous lifeguards; I was impressed and pleased. The lazy river was fun, even the littles (age 3 and 4) loved it. And, you can bring in your own lunch and drinks if you like. Lots of shaded chairs and tables. Clean restrooms, too.

I absolutely LOVED this place. It's cheap - $4 to get in CASH ONLY. I saw a wide variety of fowl including song birds, pelicans, red-tailed hawk, killdeer, rosette spoonbills, various egrets & herons and osprey. I will definitely be returning to this park.

The San Jacinto Museum of History is housed in the base of the San Jacinto Monument. Special treasures can be found from Mexican Texas, the Texas Revolution, and the Republic of Texas. But the Museum also holds art and artifacts from Pre-Columbian Mexico to the Civil War and beyond. From books to bayonets, swords to sketches, there’s something here for everyone. The Museum is housed in the base of the San Jacinto Monument, the tallest column monument in the world. Take an elevator ride to the top to look out over the Houston Ship Channel. View the Texas Forever!! movie for a quick review of the Texas revolution. The multi-facetted destination state park is also home to the Battleship Texas which is the only dread-naught battleship in existence and was used in both world wars. Picnic spots abound in the beautiful state park. A Boardwalk will take you on a fascinating nature walk out into the marsh habitat of birds and alligators. Stop by our annual San Jacinto Day Festival in April.

Each hole at this course is a detailed reconstruction of the 18 most famous and challenging holes in the world: golf-lovers will want to test their skills here.
What a nice and impressive course, but...
After heavy rain on last weekend some fairways were still very wet, some bunkers were still lakes and others were hard like concrete and not raked at all.
Moreover the greens just changing from winter to summer, but not irregular to play, some still rather slow, others fast like hell...
Anyway, taking the weather from before into consideration it was ok.
And what to enjoy more? A splendid sunshine, the marvelous landscape, the challenge? ...
Or the beer in clubhouse later on?

We absolutely love this place for relaxing after work or watching a game and are typically here a couple of times a week. The drinks are well made and the food is good but service can be inconsistent, depending on the waitress. If you visited in the past, be aware that smoking is now allowed on the patio only. Wednesday night is steak night so it fills up fast - ditto for any Texans game or other big games. If you go, give the food a try - the corn poppers are sweet, spicy and addictive!! The chili is pretty good, as are a number of the salads. If you're in the mood for fried bar food, you can beat the appetizers and summer sausage and cheese plate makes a great snack on a hot summer afternoon.
