This area of Ireland is not to be missed. Very different from anything else we saw. If you start in Roundwood and take highway R759 you will go through some amazing countryside. Stop near Lough Tay and find the trailhead. (There are a few parking areas). You can take a spectacular hike on a beautifully maintained trail (much of which is raised boardwalk) and see amazing views in every direction. Then, drive towards Sally Gap. It's hauntingly beautiful and unique. So worthwhile. You can continue on to Dublin from there. Country roads (narrow) but typical of those in Ireland.

Super walking, biking and hiking trails. Also great to have a relaxing picnic. If you keep walking up the hill you get to the leadmines and the views are stunning!

There are amazing walking, hiking and jogging trails in the Barnaslingan Woods. Great place to picnic and great views of the Scalp.

From Dublin City we got the Dart train to Bray. Had a very enjoyable walk to Graystone, had a spot of lunch and then walked back to Bray. As keen walkers it was a relatively easy walk with stunning views. Being the beginning of February we were very lucky with the weather which made it more enjoyable. We then returned to Dublin City.

St Kevin’s Way is a 30 Km (18 mile) route from Hollywood, following in the footsteps of St. Kevin through the hills of Co. Wicklow to the Valley of Glendalough where he spent the rest of his life in solitary prayer and contemplation. After Kevin’s death in AD 618, what had been a humble hermit’s retreat developed into an impressive monastic city which was to continue as a centre of piety and learning for many years to come. Since we were staying in Glendalough we decided to walk from there back in the direction towards Hollywood. The route then is along the banks of the Glendasan River in the Valley of Glendalough. It passes along an easy country roadway and through beautiful woodlands, until it reaches a disused Mine. We climbed part of the rocky area to sit by a small waterfall where we had our sandwich, and contemplated the beautiful valley. We returned by the same route. A lovely relaxed walk on which we were lucky to see young deer grazing in the hills above us. Suitable for families and people with reduced mobility.

We headed off here to explore with our dogs..and we discovered what a wonderful place this is...the walks are great for all abilities. The toilet block was extremely clean and it was free to use facilities. We spent a couple of really enjoyable hours here..
