Newgrange Falconry

Reviewed By tracyhZ6211GA - Cheltenham, United Kingdom

We booked the falconry experience through the K Club and Brian brought his majestic birds to meet us in the beautiful grounds of the hotel. We knew this was going to something special when Brian immediately produced two Golden eagles from his van and he told us the story of how he was the first person to successfully breed a Golden Eagle in Ireland... you could sense straight away how much he cared for his birds (like a doting father) and when they opened their enormous wings you realised the strength and power these glorious birds possess. Brian then produced an array of wonderful birds from little owls to Harris hawks and falcons letting us hold each one in turn whilst he told us of their history and gave us a glimpse into their individual characters whilst explaining how they hunt their prey in the wild. We only booked a 90 minute session, but after two hours Brian was still producing birds for us and then he took us on a hawk walk through the gardens accompanied by two hawks flying free but returning at regular intervals to land on our arms and feed. Our session was rounded off after 3 hours with Brian creating a wonderful slow motion video of the little owl flying through our arms towards the camera - a great memory to hold on to from such a wonderful experience. Brian is a warm and friendly man with a little cheeky glint in his eye who loves his birds and loves talking to his customers about how much he loves them. We have truly enjoyed our trip to Ireland but the highlight of our trip was undoubtedly our three hour session with Brian and his family of birds... I cannot recommend this experience highly enough as it surpassed all of our expectations... if you love birds of prey then I throughly recommend you indulge yourself and book the falconry experience with Brian - he is guaranteed to keep you entertained and enthralled. Thank you Brian, you gave us such an enjoyable time and we really loved your company! ... we will definitely see you again the next time we visit Ireland! T & D

Irish Military War Museum & Family Park

The Irish Military War Museum and family park, offers a fascinating insight into Irish participants' involvement in both World War One and World War Two, as well as other military conflicts in world history. The Irish Military War Museum, covering 5,000 square feet of floor space, will represent a distinctly non-political but 'must see' educational and historical resource for people of all ages and from right across the island of Ireland and beyond.

Wow!!Went here today and what an amazing experience. The museum is brilliant and a huge collection of memorabilia. Fergus who works there is very knowledgeable and spent alot of time with us showing us everything and telling us stories and facts. My son said this is the best museum he has been in,way better than the one in Dublin city and Bovington in the UK. He will be returning at some stage with his friends. Worth every cent. I would highly recommend a visit here.

Loughcrew Cairns

Loughcrew Cairns are one of Meaths best kept secerts. The monumnets date back to 3.500BC and loughcrew tombs offer guided tours throughout these historic hills.

Reviewed By daviddJ3376XE

Loughcrew is a series of tombs spread across several hills near Oldcastle in Meath. The tombs date from the Neolithic period and are probably in or around 5300 years old. The largest of these tombs is Cairn T, on the hill of Carnbane East. There is a car park and a little walk over the fields to the top of the hill brings you to cairns. The views are wonderful, as this is the highest point in County Meath and on a clear day you can see Slieve Gullion and other mountains to the north. Most of the tombs only remain as stone circles, but Cairn T has an intact central chamber, which is fenced off. However, even though technically you can get a key, the passageway is barred by a steel support after about 2 metres, so there is no real point in getting the key. The rock carvings can be partly viewed through the iron doorway anyway. A nearby tomb is completely open and also has some impressive rock carvings. The site boasts some amazing views, but it is not wheelchair friendly, and, as one is walking over grass and sheep fields, some form of waterproof footwear is advisable.

fab place to visit, lots and lots to do for all ages, lots of free activities for small children, can get very busy so usual queuing unavoidable, disappointed in actual factory tour though (self guided), picnic areas available, would love to return again.
