Round Tower Visitor Centre

Reviewed By NeilT626 - Westport, Ireland

This place is a little gem...we were staying in a nearby hotel on a Dublin mini-break. One morning it was very wet, and we wanted to find a fun indoor activity for our young children to enjoy. This place ticked all the right boxes! Clondalkin Round Tower is an incredible museum experience, and totally interactive for all ages. Full credit to the local council (South Dublin) for developing this quality facility. However, I read another TripAdvisor review which I thought was totally unfair with their allusions toward 'The Happy Pear' Café outside the entrance. I completely understand that the quality and scope of such visitor attraction's in the current climate requires commercial support, and if the 'Happy Pear' were happy to oblige to support this attraction then that's fine with me! 'The Happy Pear' is a great little café, with a strong (and fun emphasis!) on healthy and wholesome food which is not a bad thing! Around the base of the tower (it's not possible to climb up inside the tower), is an attractively laid-out garden and terrace area. I imagine that on a warm summer's day the café spills out on the terrace creating a lovely ambience. Overall a fantastic fun morning out for our young family. We will be back to visit. Nb. I noticed there were two TripAdvisor pages for this attraction: is it possible for the owners to merge it into one page? It will help your review scores. Thank you.

Ah deary, deary me. If only every tourist office were like this. The lady there is the friendliest, loveliest, most accommodating, knowledgeable person in the Land of Eire. We were looking for information about George Knowall and Dean‘s Grange Cemetary where he is laid to rest in the „arms of the baby Jesus“. The good lady went to great lengths and spared no trouble in getting us all the Information we needed to hunt down the grave which we did not rob. Fine selection of books and informative leaflets on offer there. Make sure you drop in before you start you holiday in Dun Laoghaire and environs. Ask the lady if she remembers the good-looking chap from Munich, Germany who also wanted to try out the house tandem bike.

The Irish Family History Centre is a must visit place for those interested in finding out about their Irish Family Heritage. One can research themselves on the in-house facilities or get advice and coaching from the Staff. The staff at the Centre are excellent at what they do, well connected and are most friendly, professional and engaging. We found them genuinely interested to help us and in fact went above and beyond to help us track down information about my Irish Grandmother. We could not have done this on our own. I have to single out and thank Dr Patrick Roycroft for the interest and support he gave us. Going to the Centre proved to be a wonderful experience and I urge anyone with an interest in knowing about their Irish past to make enough time for a visit.
