Four of us stayed here with our birding guide. We were the only ones staying at the reserve and we were treated fantastically. Our hostess and chef (I'd horribly mispell their names so forgive the anonymity) were wonderful. We had some complicated food requests and they handled them with no problem. We had lots of really good, fresh, hot food to eat and fresh juices for breakfast. They've screened in the outside eating area and that was very nice to eat and relax in. The WiFi worked well for us. The rooms were spacious and had both fans and air conditioning. The butterfly garden was very interesting.

This was our first Maya site ever. It is still one of our favorites, even after visiting some of the more developed and famous sites in Belize. We were the only visitors. The manager gave us a personal talk about the Santa Rita Mayans which really added to our experience. Apparently this site has recently been fenced and made a national preserve. Even though there is only one remaining temple, it is the birthplace of the Mestizo peoples so it is significant in Belize and Central America history. It was once the center of a large Mayan city-state. It costs $5 per person now, and we got a receipt just like at other official sites in Belize. It is kind of hard to find even though it is in town, so glad we taxied there.
