In the olden days, it was common place for tribal wars to occur and lead to cannibalism. the chiefs and the villagers were distressed from the regular outbreaks of war, and so sought a way to protect their clan.To provide security for his people, the chief would encourage the villagers to flee and hide in the caves on sacred Navo Island.
