What to do and see in Colorado, United States: The Best Food & Drink

March 9, 2022 Terina Blouin

Colorado is home to no less than twenty-six ski resorts such as those in Vail and Breckenridge; other winter activities include snowboarding, sledding, sleigh rides, snow hiking and snowmobiling. The state is blessed with national parks, grasslands and forests where in warmer weather you can enjoy hiking, mountain biking or rock climbing. Wildlife abounds, from bears to moose and raccoons to wolverines. More interested in local history? Head for either the Ute Indian Museum or the Koshare Indian Museum, and don't miss the forts such as Fort Garland and Bent's Old Fort. For a complete change, why not take a ride in a hot air balloon from South Park Valley or Boulder and admire Colorado's picturesque landscape from above?

The rating is solely for the beer, which is some of the most innovative and highest quality in the USA. They have so many styles you are sure to find one (likely many more) that you love. The bar and outside areas are excellent and sipping a great beer in the winter sun is a highlight of any trip to Fort Collins. Now for the tour, which had been on our bucket list since my son started attending CSU. He was finally 21 so we were good to go. Fear and trepidation entered my heart when the first announcement from the tour guide was that he spoke too fast. I think that’s what he said but he spoke so fast I could only catch every third word. So off we went. The beer samples were great but the information was mostly indecipherable.

A ton of fun! Our tour guide David gave an in-depth overview into the distillation process of Stranahan’s single malt whiskey as well as the history of the brand. We also learned about bottling and how the barrels are made. We were provided three different tastings and you get to keep the free tasting glass as well as a nice discount on bottles you purchase at the distillery. I would highly recommend if you are a whiskey lover!

We stayed in the downstairs suite (really a room) and loved it. Super spacious room with a super comfy bed and amazing shower. We slept great (though recommend eye shades). Loved the art work in the room. Easy to walk to downtown Carbondale from the hotel. Would love to stay here again! Our dog loved it too! Great smart tv with the Hallmark and Lifetime Christmas channels. Nice fireplace. Nice patio too.

Stopped in early afternoon for a bite before hiking. Food options while limited were delicious. Our party of 4 had 2 bowls of the potato leek soup with a basket of bread, 1 flat bread (with your choice of toppings) and 1 wedge salad with salmon. The food was great -- as was the presentation. We also had a few paddles of wine with a nice assortment. They have live entertainment on Saturday afternoons, but since we were pressed for time, we left before it started. Will definitely be returning.

BURLY Brewing Company

We are a brewery and taproom. We have 24 taps and 5,100 square feet. All of our beer is made here. We focus on traditional styles and tasteful deviations. We have indoor and outdoor seating. Our taproom is spacious and is done in beautiful hardwoods with Edison bulb fixtures throughout. BURLY Brewing Company makes great beer and has a wonderful environment in which to enjoy our beer.

Reviewed By SusanD708 - Castle Rock, United States

In recent years, Castle Rock has exploded with local brewing options. Sadly, many of been mediocre at best. Burly Brewing is a total exception. Excellent options across the board from the lighter, summer options to the dark porters. Located off the beaten path in an industrial park, this one is worth finding on a weekend, especially after a motorcycle ride. Even better when On The Hook, a fish & chip food truck company from Wyoming, is on site. Plenty of indoor seating, a small outdoor patio out front and also an event room. But the beers are stellar!

Carlson Vineyards Winery & Tasting Room

While we take the art of winemaking seriously, we like to have fun too. A favorite since 1988, we're known for pioneering Colorado wines made from local grapes and fruit, with names like Laughing Cat, Cougar Run, and a Dinosaur series. Carlson Vineyards, a small farm winery, produces premium wines in the heart of Colorado wine country above the town of Palisade, at an altitude of 4700 ft. Grape wines: Riesling, T-Red (Lemberger), Sweet Baby Red, Shiraz, Merlot, Chardonnay and Gewurztraminer. Fruit wines: Cherry, Plum, Peach and Pearadactyl (Pear-Apple). Relax and savor the scenic vistas of the Grand Valley and Colorado River too. Located on Palisade's Fruit & Wine Scenic Byway around mile marker 6 on East Orchard Mesa.

Warm and welcoming staff. The owner/vintner even stopped at our table to visit even though it was a busy weekend afternoon. We loved the wines...bought a case of assorted types of wine. We were SO surprised to discover so many we liked at ONE place! We sat outside under the trees and enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere. Tastings were ample and the $8 tasting fee was waived when we bought 3 bottles. This place is our favorite winery in the area! Not pretentious. Great wines!
