We really enjoyed this virtual live experience all together. And even-though we decided to "only" watch, due to the time difference (after dinner for us), we had a great time learning more about how to properly cook Empanadas. Thanks again to Camila for making it very interesting, "tasteful"and fun and giving us the chance to discover the world of Empanadas and also sharing insights about Argentina with us.

We did a 12 day customized trip in 2018. Found this company through Zicasso, Kieran was great arranging it all and communication was easy. Our trip started in Buenos Aires where we did a cooking class at the Argentine Experience and took a tango lesson. Our dance instructors took us out to a milongo afterwards and we ended up staying out until 2am. It was great! We felt completely immersed in the culture. We then flew to Iguazu and toured the jungle, got blasted by the falls in a boat ride and saw all the incredible creatures that live there. Our last 5 days were spent hiking in Patagonia where we trekked the Perito Moreno Glacier, visited a ranch, and then drove to El Chalten for the final days. All of our transportation was provided, all internal flights booked by Kieran, and everything was just wonderful. To this day, it’s one of my favorite vacations!

My husband and I booked the Best Private and Personalized City Tour in Montevideo for cruise passengers as we had never been to that city. I was able to stay in contact with the tour operator through WhatsApp which gave me an extra layer of comfort. Our tour guide Alvaro picked us up on time right outside of the cruise terminal. His English was great and he was very knowledgeable about the city. Everywhere we went, someone knew him! He spoke about the history of his city, showed us the old town, the historical rich area, government buildings, beautiful architecture, and of course all of the main attractions. We also escaped the downtown area for a bit and explored the beautiful beaches and the area where many of the embassies are located. Overall we were very happy with this tour and because of the personalized aspect of it, we were able to venture and see areas that appealed to us more. I believe that we got to see double the amount of attractions and probably learnt more about the history and day-to-day life of Uruguay than any tour we would have booked on the ship. Alvaro dropped us off at the Meat Market where we tried some of the local BBQ before we headed back onto the ship. We arrived with plenty of time to spare and enjoyed the entire day. Thank you Andres and Alvaro for everything.

I always love to take a tour when we arrive somewhere new. Of course perfect weather is always prefered, but on this tour on this day it was rainy. However Marcella our guide and driver as we call him Wally made the rainy day sunshine. I can't remember a tour where I laughed and learned so much. There wasn't an empty seat and we were the only 2 english speaking guest and what a blast. Marcella gave us a tour to remember and Wally drove us safely to and from. We highly recommend this tour and cross your fingers you have Marbella and Wally even if it rains ! Thanks Jim & Bruce

A birding tour during your stay in Colonia can be a great chance to experience and learn about the more natural aspect of the city, especially if you´ve already been to the more typical historical sites. Colonia is a highly touristic city, but ecotourism is not exploited in the least. To date there are no other local operators which provide ecotourism services. Colonia Birding offers nature tours to any nature enthusiasts who would like to get to know our rich biodiversity. At the same time, this would provide income to local communities, thus promoting conservation and awareness of natural areas and species, something much needed. Furthermore, your guide is a professional biologist and ornithologist with ample field experience. He´s worked in diverse research projects accross Uruguay, where he's learned much during long field hours, not only about birds but also the natural life of Uruguay in general. He is bilingüal in spanish and english, and sometimes ventures into portuguese.

Inclusions: Small snacks of typical local food are included, Bottled water, The typical Mate is included, you will learn how to prepare it and share it during one of our snack stops.

Exclusions: Private transportation, Tour participants are strongly recommended to bring their own binoculars.

Visiting Uruguay for a conference, I was very happy to find Colonia birding because the conference left me little time to explore on my own. I joined a tour of ca. 12, of whom I was the only one with an ornithology background. Rafa did a wonderful job serving us all, explaining introductory birding skills alternating with tips for identifying rarities. He also emphasized natural history context, not just twitching, and told us a lot about conservation and culture in Uruguay, interspersed with a demonstration of Mate tea and home-baked sweets. Rafa is caring, attentive, and a native speaker of both English and Spanish. Because he took such good care of all of us, I believe everyone was enriched. I personally came out with a good idea of the local bird community, better knowledge of behaviour and ecology, and of course several species that were new to me. After the excursion Rafa sent a detailed list to all and shared his list with me on ebird. A great experience and wonderful day out.

Ferry cancelled due to COVID. I was told by Colonia that I could get a partial refund (they keep 30%) because I'm a foreigner. Then when it was time to move forward with requesting the 70% refund for our tickets, they said they would only refund me the money if I have a bank in Argentina. That doesn't add up...they're offering a partial refund since I'm a foreigner, yet they only send refunds to people with Argentine bank accounts.

The tour was very good and picked us up at our hotel. We then listened to our guide who explained the itinerary and a bit of history. Our first stop was Piriapolis which was charming. We went to the top of the Cero for a great view and photo opportunity. The tour takes you to the Casapueblo which is an amazing tribute to the famous artist - Carlos Paez Vilaro. It looks like Santorini on steroids. We then went through the back streets of Punta del Este and our guide explained why it's the home of the "rich and famous." We stopped near Play Brava and had some free time to photograph and get a snack. It's a long tour but it's worth it.
