Excellent - I have visited Amethyst before the lockdown and after and cannot praise the girls highly enough. You wear a mask as you enter and are met at the entrance (which is now a different door so that there is an entrance and exit system), where your temperature is taken and questions regarding your general state of health are asked. These are all measures to keep us safe through Covid-19. The place is spotless and you are taken straight through to your treatment room. The girls all wear masks and face visors along with gloves. I felt extremely pampered, safe and relaxed at all times. The treatment as usual was just perfect and I instantly booked up for 4 weeks time. Well done all at Amethyst, you couldn't do anything more than you already are doing to make all your clients feel reassured, relaxed and safe. ????????????♀️

Established in 1836, this traditional ironmongers & hardware shop contains a wealth of original features, from the 22 ft mahogany counter and all the drawers behind to the unusual counter made of keys. Go through the rear door & step back in time. See the workshop dating back to Georgian times, office and more. Great for adults & kids alike.

5 of us went here for a couple of drinks and stayed for a lot more! We were greeted when we entered and the barman/landlord found us a table to sit 5 which was safely distanced from others. It is a quirky Jennings pub with very friendly staff serving a range of real ales aswell as Guinness and lagersall at a reasonable price too - perfect for a group of mixed drinkers. Unfortunately we eventually had to leave as we'd booked into a restaurant elsewhere in town.

We stayed in Cockermouth for a couple of nights and spent a fair bit of time in here on both nights. The pub is very much to our taste, have very friendly staff and a good selection of local real ales (refreshingly there were some strong ones, which a lot of pubs seem reluctant to sell) plus Warsteiner on draught. Prices are very reasonable. Well worth a visit. Plenty of 'local characters' in there - always a bonus.

I must admit that I have a weakness for old shops, particularly hardware shops, and this one in Cockermouth is an absolute gem. I just popped in for a battery and was taken immediately by the sheer aura of the place. The old drawers behind the counter just beg to be explored, and the huge old L.S.D cash register is a thing of sheer beauty. It’s a shop well worthy of a visit and exploration, and I believe that they also have a bit of a museum.

This 18th-century Georgian town house was the birthplace and childhood residence of the English poet William Wordsworth.
We have been promising ourselves to visit Wordsworth House for years and finally got round to it last week before it closed for the Winter. What a great place for both children and adults alike. The staff, all dressed in period costume were extremely entertaining offering samples that had been made in the kitchen to authentic Georgian recipes and entertaining the children with stories of life as a servant. The dining room is set with authentic food, once again made in the kitchen, and looks as if the residents have just finished their meal and left the room. There is also a wonderful Harpsichord in the drawing room, which was made in the 21st Century and has a beautiful sound. The gardens were also a must see although we realised that they would be much better in the Summer season. A Great place for all ages with plenty of play opportunities for children and adults alike!

We visited with a mixed age group (18, 30’s, 50’s and 60’s) and had a brilliant time. The tour was informative and the guide was happy to answer any questions throughout. It was nice to see a traditional brewery without heavy mechanisation. The tasting afterwards was friendly and you could go behind the bar to pull your own pint, which added a little something extra :) We were also able to sample Jennings port and chutneys, which helped when making decisions in the gift shop! All in all, a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon with lovely staff and company.
