I sought out this wildlife area after admiring photos from fellow wildlife photographers. Upon arriving I was immediately struck by the number of songbirds. It was a delight to listen to the meadowlarks and other species. The roads are well maintained. Take a picture of the road map at the hunter check in station; I have not found an online or printed version. The "loop" did not appear to be open. I hit several dead ends as I explored, but that was just fine. Allow several hours to explore the various habitats.

Located on the Big Cypress Reservation, this museum celebrates the history and the culture of the Seminole Tribe. Winner of a 2015-2019 TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence!
It’s an hour and a half from Fort Myers, but well worth the trip. Gave us a chance to see the vast expanses of the interior of our great state. Actually saw some mounted cowboys working cattle along the way. The Ah-Tah-Thi-Ki Museum was an unexpected gem. It gave us great information about the history and culture of the Seminole people. Informative video, well presented displays knowledgeable friendly staff. Not a particularly large museum, but worth the modest fee. The building and grounds are first rate. You can’t appreciate the history of Florida without this piece.
