Just hours from Cape Town, the Cedarberg Mountains are the rustic home of ancient rock paintings and rare animal species.
The landscape is simply stunning. The rock formations are highly photogenic. We did the Maltese cross trail. Well suited for a lighter hike of 3-4 hours. The fauna is stunning. Also you can see lots of lizards, birds of paradise.

Our 9 and 12 year old girls enjoyed this. Such a nice activity. We started at 930 am and it was already very hot so I would advise arriving at 8 when they open. It is like a treasure hunt with the map that you are given as your only tool to help you find the ancient wonders. You get a glimpse into the terrain that these indigenous people of our land had to deal with. The vibrant colours and detail of their drawings and paintings leaves you in awe. It’s fascinating how these have survived for 100s of years. The water hole at the river is a nice half way spot to take a dip and freshen up. Clambering on all the rock formations is an added bonus.

Very scenic drive with magnificent outlook. We drove in the middle of the flower season in spring. There were a few spots where you could park and admire the scenery. Great Rock formations.

While many of the usual spring flowers were already over when i visisted (there were plenty of these elsewhere in the region), i spent 2 hours wandering through little paths up and down the hill and discovered plenty of flowers, pretty and different, that i had not seen elsewhere. There were dozens of birds, with plenty to say, a myriad small creatures going about their business and fascinating foliage to observe. The views of the Cedarberg mountains and the dam were beautiful. My only comment would be that there was a bit of litter deep in the bushes which should be removed.

What a truly wonderful and well kept little museum. Well laid out and most informative with excellent examples of pioneer history as well as how Clanwilliam (or Augsburg) was built on the concept of a healthy tea. Very helpful assistants, great old photos, videos, jail cells - well worth the R30pp entry. Open weekdays.
