What to do and see in Cinque Terre, Liguria: The Best Cooking Classes

December 5, 2021 Toi Mattera

You'll find rugged beauty and a slow pace in the Cinque Terre. Named for the five towns of Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiore, this portion of the Italian Riviera is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Cars aren't allowed, so take local trains or ferries to go from town to town—or walk one of the spectacular trails that connect them.

We had a great experience at the Cinque Terre Cooking School. We were picked up promptly at the arranged time and brought to the site. Our teacher, Mr. Mendez, was very knowledgeable and skillful; entertaining too. We learned how to make pesto the traditional way, as well as an excellent baked sea bass. Also, gnocchi, stuffed vegetables and a delicious cake. To top it off, we were able to enjoy our cooking on their lovely terrace overlooking Monterosso al Mare below. What a wonderful day! This restaurant has amazing wines and the best focaccia I have ever tasted. The dish of the day was excellent too. It’s a lovely outside space but can get a tiny bit chilly late evening (I visited late September). Very reasonably priced (main dish served with focaccia plus a glass of excellent wine came to €20). This place is definitely worth a visit if you like wine and/or focaccia.
