Fengdu Ghost City is a large complex of shrines, temples and monasteries located on Ming mountain in Fengdu County. Really beautiful and well worth a visit.

I thought I had good general knowledge, but I had never heard of this place till we were taken as part of our cruise on the Yangtze River. It was a "free" tour for us, but even if your Yangtze cruise asks you to pay, do not miss it! One of the most amazing structures I have seen in my whole life, ANYWHERE. Basically it is a wooden pagoda, leaning on a hill. The approach would put you off, but please don't turn back!! You approach this gem by walking past hundreds of souvenir shops (I never imagined such a small place can support so many shops!), where people come out on the road and hassle you to buy their trinkets. Most of the items are not worth a second look. This is where you may get irritated, and feel inclined to turn back. Don't !! Press ahead, and you see a bridge in front of you. The bridge sways. Seriously. You would not enjoy crossing this bridge if you are in the least bit prone to any kind of sea-sickness. But, press ahead! After you cross the bridge, and go a little further you see this magnificent sight of the pagoda. If you are not inclined to climb, to the 9th floor, you can take pictures and walk back. But, if you climb up to at least the 9th floor, you will be amply rewarded for your efforts. There is wonderful temple, and you can slowly make your way down. (descent is far far easier!). If you are game, you can climb a further three stories to the top of the pagoda (at the very top there is barely place for five or six people to stand). You can get really good photos. If you have a stroller the climb is out of question, the stairs are too narrow, and too crowded. Even the swaying bridge would be a bit dangerous with a stroller. Watch out if you have little kids, they could get hurt on the swaying bridge or while climbing the pagoda. An unforgettable experience!

It was beautiful, peaceful, and serene. We decided to eat with the monks, which was a nice experience. While we enjoyed the temple, what brought us were the blooming lotus flowers. It rained a little but the experience was still lovely. So beautiful! They gave me my favorite screen-savers! ☺♥♥♥♥
