We were really warmly welcomed upon arrival and spent a delightful hour looking at the varied monuments, sculptures and artwork. A balance of ancient and modern, the Cathedral displays magnificent stained glass windows (one designed by Chagall) as well as modern tapestries and a lovely Bronze of Christ emerging from the tomb. Cafe is well run and there is a cheerful atmosphere everywhere.

If you have time for a diversion this'll be worthwhile. Truly remarkable mediaeval site, made slightly modern, and be sure to seek the beautiful stained glass window commemorating a US airman who died during the Battle of Britain.

Chichester's Market Cross

Reviewed By 227ianc - London, United Kingdom

The historic Chichester Cross, in Gothic Perpendicular style, today is still very much a focal point of the city of Chichester being at the junction of two of the main pedestrianised shopping streets, with people sitting inside and, when we were there, the local Rotary Clubs fundraising for disaster relief for Mozambique. A beautiful and historic building.

A walk on the walls takes you through many aspects of Chichester's rich history from Roman to modern times. Easily accessible and well signed-posted. You do not You do not have to do it all in one go. Indeed. there is much to be said for taking things in stages over the year. My wife and I walked the walls shortly after we moved to Chichester and it helped to introduce us to the many facets of this lovely city.
