What to do and see in Chichen Itza, Yucatan: The Best Tours

December 3, 2021 Brain Ambrose

While the ruins of pyramids such as El Castillo and Kukulcan are the primary reason to visit Chichen Itza, they are hardly all that’s on offer here. Otherworldly bird-watching and stargazing experiences can be found within the Maya Jungle Reserve and in Hacienda Chichen's Bird Refuge. Daytrips run from both Merida and Cancun.

We visited Cancun in Feb 2021 and booked a Sailfish Tour with Contoy Excursions. They were prompt with their responses, picked us up from our hotel, everything was very well organized, all of the staff were friendly, service overall was exceptional! We were able to see Sailfish along with dolphins, barracuda, and spend a fun day out on the boat. The Captain was very knowledgeable and Carlos our guide was great! Would recommend and would book again!

the main highlight for me is always joel, the shaman of the tezmacal. his ceremonies are sincere and beautiful, and i always feel great after I've taken part in it. snorkeling is fun, and the buffet is really good. i highly recommend this park but avoid the gift shop. my friend bought overpriced sunglasses that broke as he put them on, and the "manager" working wouldn't refund his money. very unfair.

My boyfriend and I booked the snorkel and cenote tour with Ujajil Tours and it was my favorite day while visiting Tulum. Pablo and George were extremely friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating on the 4.5 hour tour (perfect amount of time to see the ruins, snorkel, and visit Grand Cenote), and we had an absolute blast. We got the ruins early so it wasn't crowded, and Pablo filled us in on the history of Tulum and the ruins which was great. We saw sea turtles, sting rays and beautiful fish while snorkeling, and Grand Cenote was just stunning. I highly recommend this tour, and would book Ujajil for another experience any time I return!

Fernando is your best friend in Mexico that you never knew you had, until you take his tours. My girlfriends and I took a girl's trip to Tulum and ended up exclusively using Carey Tours for 3 different excursions. Fernando is the coolest, super knowledgeable, and showed us places in Tulum that would otherwise have been hard for us to get to on our own. He really showed us the real nature side of Tulum that is away from the crowds, and deeper into the Mexican and Mayan culture. I can't recommend Fernando and Carey Tours enough! Definitely try Carey Tours out, I'm sure you will come back for another!

Thank you to AXG Travel for such an amazing experience!!! Our family and friends had the best day. We had a group of 30 that went on this excursion and for the price it was well worth it, food, drinks and music were included. The snorkeling was great with lots of beautiful fish. We stopped at the beautiful Isla mujeres were there was so much to do, some of us went shopping others went to the ruins on that island and others, like myself, laid back and went to the beach (playa Norte) and got a 30 minute massages for 30 bucks. Massages there go for $1 a minute which was fantastic. The crew was great and made us feel comfortable and safe. We will definitely do this one again!!
