The Antiques Shop

The Antiques Shop, located at street level, within the Rows of Chester. Established in 1989. Owned and run by the same Antiques Dealer, for nearly 30 years, selling genuine British Antique and Vintage items. The shop building is a late 13th century great medieval stone town house, circa 1290-1300. Although the facade is imitation 17th century, within the building there are substantial remains of the medieval town house. 38-42 Watergate Street is one of the most interesting buildings in Chester. Rarely has the medieval fabric of a building survived so intact as in the upper levels, and rarely has a building been so thoroughly investigated.

I went in this little shop looking for an early antique map of Cheshire. The owner was really helpful and knowledgeable. There were several to choose from and I left with a particularly nice example. I was nearly tempted to buy an exceptional piece of vintage leather luggage but I was spent up. This shop is a real treasure trove of interesting antiques, Being local I will definitely be back before Christmas.

Everything you want here in the way of reclaimed stuff. You can buy anything from a couple of aircraft seats through to big big bags of cobblestones and everything inbetween. A lot of outdoor stuff but also some fine antique halls. Just watch out because there are one or two reproductions Only one or two) there BUT just ask as they have very helpful staff there. Ceratinly this is a fantastic way to spend a few hours just browsing. Would be good if they had a cafe- that would really work

Dagfields Craft & Antiques

Reviewed By 486angelc

I really must respond to PDM1000's review from March 2020. I was present during his tirade. The duty staff tried to help him by contacting the dealer whose clock it was. Regardless of whether or not a refund should be given (the clock was returned with a dent on the side), the duty staff were polite and helpful at all times. The only row that ensued was entirely from the customer's side. He simply could not grasp the idea that all the units are run by individual dealers. The duty staff tried to explain that they cannot hand over a large cash refund without clearance from the dealer concerned. This customer insisted that he was taking 'Dagfields' to court and would not listen to any explanations of how the centre operates. Having looked at his other reviews I am left with the distinct impression that ranting is his favourite pastime. I shall enjoy my future visits to Dagfields all the more without him there. My opinion is that Dagfields is a great place for a browse. There is something for everyone. It's great for gifts, homewares, books, tropical fish, plants and now there is an excellent farm shop on site. Plenty of free parking and 2 cafes. Don't let the opinion of this unpleasant individual put you off visiting.
