Much of the old town district of Chania was developed around its harbor, which was built by the Venetians during the 14th century. Its lighthouse still proudly overlooks the Mediterranean. Here you’ll find several cinemas and historical attractions like the Archaeological Museum, a collection of Minoan and Roman artifacts that’s housed in the former Monastery of Saint Francis. Word nerds will especially enjoy the Museum of Typography.

One wished all travel agents were like Markidis. I did two trips with them: to Matala and the Real Crete and both were absolutely amazing. -very good communication both by email and in the office; -small groups which allows for more personalized service, flexibility, questions; -excellent crew; both the guide Barbara and the driver Kostas were very professional, fun and went extra mile to make these special days for us; -I can highly recommend both trips. You see a lot, you learn a lot and it’s a lot of fun! -the Real Crete tour is indeed very special; there are many great sites to explore and there is also time for food, music and dance in a local village taverna! Really amazing time. Thank you :)

A unique tour to the ancient Crete!!! The centre of Minoan civilization and capital of Minoan Crete lay 5km south of Heraklion The Minoan palace is the main site of interest at Knossos, an important city in antiquity, which was inhabited continuously from the Neolithic period until the 5th c. AD. The palace was built on the Kephala hill and had easy access to the sea and the Cretan interior. According to tradition, it was the seat of the wise king Minos. The Palace of Knossos is connected with thrilling legends, such as the myth of the Labyrinth, with the Minotaur, and the story of Daidalos and Ikaros.Knossos flourished for approximately two thousand years. It had large palace buildings, extensive workshop installations and luxurious rock-cut cave and tholos tombs. As a major centre of trade and the economy, Knossos maintained ties with the majority of cities in the Eastern Mediterranean. Let us know if you need a guide and we will be more than happy to provide you the best!!!

Knossos palace was built using all the architectural innovations available. It has hundreds of rooms storage areas, specialized workshops and spacious courts hosting ceremonies and feasts. Knossos Palace is considered the 8th world wonder and it’s well deserved. It is one of the most important artefacts of Minoan civilization. It was almost completely destroyed by the earthquake. However, the reconstruction in 20th century allows us to see now how it looked in its best days. *By request we can also stop at the biggest aquarium in Greece- "Cretaquarium". More than 250 kinds of fish and animals live here. And the best part of it is that they are being held under conditions that are extremely close to their natural habitat, hense very comfortable.

We never even though about them. He was very flexible, fun and reliable person. Always attending when you need him but giving you your personal space at the same time. He had great humour and told us many interesting facts about Greece. We spend whole day together and I didn't get tired of him even once.

Knossos palace is Crete’s most visited archaeological site.Discover the most well know myths about the Minotaur and the Labyrinth while walking through the history of the Minoan civilization. The first excavation of the site was conducted in 1878 by Minos Kalokerinos of Heraklion. This was followed by the long-term excavations 1900-1913 and 1922-1930) of the Englishman Sir Arthur Evans, who uncovered virtually the entire palace. While walking through the palace one can admire the Frescoes, pottery and the Throne room. It is the 2nd time i have decided to walk Samaria Gorge, the last time it was 10 years ago. I knew what i was getting myself into - just my poor friend, who i dragged along, didn't.. :) Loved it the first time, loved it the second times..so let me give you some tips from this trip. I chose this travel company and was happy to do so as they picked us up on time, lovely guide Elena was waiting for us already when we arrived. Once they collected everyone it was time to head off in the beautiful White mountains. We got a lot of useful and interesting information in the bus from Elena and we headed for our first stop for a breakfast. Here i have to say i was greatly disappointed at the selection of dry, tasteless toasts and baguettes with one slice of ham and cheese, better to buy your own breakfast in advance. Would greatly recommend to change a restaurant! But we were stocked up on food - you are going to walk 4-6 hours, so empty bottle for water and some snacks is a must. We took this time walking sticks with us that were helpful as you are walking most of the time on rocks, take at least trainers and a hat with you. You will get a time plan from your guide so to be out of the gorge just in time for a boat, as if you miss it you will stay there the night. I attached a photo of our guide Elena too who was making sure we all made it out and was kind enough to take one with me. We took a tons of photos, had a great time, met a goat in Samaria village who eat our apple leftovers, slipped one time on a straight floor - guess i am just clumsy..all in all made it out and took the bus for 2 EU to the village. There i just headed for the sea to was away the sweat and relax. It was also very nice to change my trainers for the flip flops i took with me. We eat some thing in the local restaurant and boarded the boat, on time.. :) After the nice and peaceful boat drive, everyone was tired, we boarded the bus again and headed our way home. The road back is like a roller coaster but as there is no other way the experienced driver went one mountain road up and then down..as we were in good hands, nothing to worry about.
