New Delhi is all at once chaotic and calm, a complicated city where cows often wander the shanty-lined streets. The 17th century Red Fort is a mass of domes and turrets, while Chandni Chowk is an exercise in friendly haggling. Jantar Mantar features larger-than-life sundials and astronomical instruments that are still used to predict the weather. Travelers and locals flock to the India Gate, the national monument of India that honors the soldiers who died in World War I and the Third Afghan War.

Temples and crumbling mansions lie hidden in narrow lanes. So are remarkable sights: monks, monkeys, gods and ghosts, sacred trees, a glittering wedding market... Walk with our young guides, stop, take a picture, ask questions, listen to stories that merge the old with the new. Take a rickshaw to the permanent yellow red mist of the spice market. Climb for a rooftop view. The Street Connections Old Delhi Walk is run, enthusiastically, by ex-beneficiaries of the Salaam Baalak Trust, an Indian charity working with street children. It ends at SBT's largest boys' shelter home where you hear the guides' own stories and why other children still run away. We invite you to come and see all this, and by doing to help the guides build their independent lives, and help the Trust's ongoing work too.

Gauri shankar temple is located in chandni chowk, near red fort in new delhi. This is one of the old temples in delhi. I visit the temple whenever I am in old delhi. There is a feeling of peace inside the temple which I really enjoy. Must visit if you are in old delhi.

The Diwan-i-Aam is the public audience hall where the Mughal Emperor would sit listening to griences from the public and dispense judgements. The hall is a beautifully symmetrical design of lobed arches that house the throne where the emperor once sat. This is one of the most beautiful buildings of the complex and worth visiting.

The Delhi metro is a marvel to behold. Especially in the old part of town it was inconceivable that it could be done. World class stations and trains; by far the fastest and most reliable transport in the entire Delhi region; as it also connects with all 4 satellite towns around Delhi. My favourite for showing guests the incredible diversity within this city is to board the mmetro at Rajiv Chowk, and take a ride for just 2 or 3 stations (5 minutes) to Chandni Chowk; right into the heart of Old Delhi >> It's like time travels :-)
