From my point of view, the most interesting place is in the Yaroslavl region. I would especially like to thank the guide Irina for a very interesting two-hour excursion.

The white buildings contrast with the bright flower gardens tended by the nuns. If you are fortunate enough to visit during a service you will experience the melodic singing of the nuns. Women need to cover their heads before entering the church.

It is one of the best open-air museums of wooden architechture in Russia. If we are talking about the close proximity to Moscow, probably it is the museum you should visit. As for the museum, you can visit different churches - winter and summer one, as well as different housing types - for rich and poor peasants. I was there with a large group that had a guided tour so my visit was quite long and it was worth it.

The Kremlin in itself is a lovely place to walk or sit in the sunshine (40r), but there are also lots of museums to investigate. The history of Yaroslavl region is small but interesting, and the 'Yaroslavl Food' exhibition - a display of how Russians ate in the past - is very good. You can see the bear tey saved after her mother was killed, and even feed her seeds or fruit. But the best is climbing the bell tower for a fabulous view of the town. It's quite manageable for most people to climb. Each exhibition has a separate charge so you choose what you want to do. There are other exhibitions, souvenir shops and a cafe.
