My husband and I had a two person wine tasting (given to me as a birthday gift) and we had an AMAZING experience! Because of the COVID situation, private tasting are be offered at the group price and so we had the entire place to ourselves. We tasted 5 wines, if I remember correctly, and were each given our own charcuterie plate to complement the wines. We learned so much about the history of wine in Hungary and the different regions. Highly recommend - was a very special experience.

We spent a week in Budapest and began in the best way possible-- with 3 days of guided tours by the wonderful women of Budapest Locals! Anita took excellent care of our needs while we were still in the U.S. She helped us to set up our tours and times in the most kind and efficient manner. Once we arrived in Budapest, we spent our time with Barbi and Kinga. We ate, we learned, we laughed and we came away with a great appreciation of Hungary and its history and a love for the kind Hungarians who introduced us to their beautiful city. I highly recommend a tour, short or long, with Budapest Locals whenever you come to Budapest!

We we booked this tour online prior to our trip to Budapest. We met our guide and now friend Kata at the designated spot. Kata showed us around the Grand Central market and we were able to taste numerous samplings of traditional Hungarian food types. We then were transported to their kitchen where we were offered a beginning drink of schnapps. Kata had the table set with the items that we needed to prepare for our cooking class. We started by preparing root vegetables to make a broth for the soup. We then prepared the chicken prior to it going into the skillets to make Hungarian paprika chicken. We then made the dumplings and while the paprika chicken was cooking we then prepared a traditional Hungarian poppy seed bread pudding.this was the first time we had taken a cooking class while traveling and it is something that we will have to do for every trip in the future. I cannot give this class enough stars we had so much fun.

We never got to take the day trip to Austria tour we prepaid for last summer due to the pandemic. Sure it would’ve been nice. I was, however, frustrated about the refund policy! Not only was the company a stickler about not giving us a full refund (though it was not our choice to cancel), they would only issue the refund through Pay Pal which charged us an additional international fee! What a rip off! Very disappointed at their overall lack of flexibility. Consumer beware!!

We had an absolutely great time with Julianna on our half-day tour to the Etyek wine region, just outside Budapest. It was definitely one of the highlights of our entire trip and one of the best decisions! I highly debated booking this tour, as I wasn't sure what our day to day itinerary was going to look like in Budapest and didn't feel like we had enough time to commit to a full day trip, but definitely wanted to see something outside of the city. My family is very much into wine, and thought this would be a good topic! The tour was simply fantastic! Julianna drove us to Etyek while giving us a very thorough and interesting history/culture lesson on Budapest and Hungary, throughout the different centuries all linked to the wine production and legacy of the region. It helped solidify some of the history knowledge we've been picking up, while adding really interesting facts and cool twist! Once in Etyek, we got to visit, chat, learn and sample from family wine producers on a very intimate and unique setting! We visited Nádas wine workshop and Anonym winery. I've done wine tasting and tours before, but have never done anything quite like this... it felt very personal, unique and the winemakers were all so candid and open to share everything about their own personal story and wine production, we learned tons! we also tasted exquisite wines!! We usually gravitate towards reds, but the wines we tried (from this mainly white-wine region) basically made converts of all of us! :) We ended the evening at a small family run winery/restaurant, Debreczeni-Ferenczi winery, with a fantastic dinner and chat with a lovely local family, we simply had a blast. We left the tour full, wine-happy and with a new local friend! Julianna - we'll definitely be in touch whenever we are back in the area, thank you soooo much for a fantastic experience!!! One additional note - I didn't book this trip until fairly last minute, maybe 2 days before. During our trip, I realized how much coordination effort goes behind the scenes for them to set up the visits and dinner with the winemakers and for them to be able to align their schedule and planning, specially during the low season when they might not be running the tours that often. I felt bad about booking so last minute and really appreciated everyone's efforts to make it work, but would kindly suggest/ask that you consider this and try to book as early as possible.

My tour guide was Endre - charming, cheerful, punctual, well-travelled and with ridiculously good English. The private tours are customisable - we customised mine so much that the four hour tour took nearly six fascinating and enjoyable hours. We also “customised” coffee and cake into Villányi Franc! You’ll cover a lot of ground on this tour but it’s not physically demanding thanks to clever tactical use of public transport. Endre was particularly good at highlighting the subtle details and history that one would otherwise miss - particularly how the different epochs are represented in the architecture (often even within the same building).
