Sydney offers plenty of historical and contemporary Australian flavor. The marvelous Sydney Opera House looks like a great origami sailboat, floating peacefully in a harbor. Wander the narrow cobblestone streets of The Rocks and then take in a street performance on the Circular Quay before heading into the Museum of Contemporary Art. The views from the Sydney Tower Eye observatory are epic – use this chance to get to know the layout of the city from high above.

Every Friday & Saturday evening, Bruce Glen, The Gentleman Magician presents an entrancing evening of magic and captivating Australian stories at Sir Stamford at Circular Quay - one of Sydney’s most beautiful historic hotels.
Bruce Glen's Gentleman Magician's show is not just entertainment, but also intelligent fun! His well crafted story telling intertwines with illusions, sorry Bruce, I meant "Magic". His stories are full of historical references which bring greater meaning to the whole show. The intrigue around what is to come, starts right from when you enter the foyer of the beautiful heritage listed Sir Stamford (once owned by The Ritz Carlton...), with the Concierge asking you to "Pick a card; any card" and there is so much more to follow. Thank you again to Bruce and his assistant Katherine, the evening was magical (could not avoid this adjective no matter how much I tried to resist). Regards Gillian

The Australian Ballet exists to inspire, delight and challenge audiences through the power of its performances. The Australian Ballet is one of the world's premier ballet companies and has delivered extraordinary performances for over 50 years. A commitment to artistic excellence, a spirited style and a willingness to take risks have defined the company from its earliest days, both onstage and off. Moving effortlessly between the great classical ballets and new contemporary commissions, the company has a uniquely Australian style, powered by artistry and athleticism.

One of the most iconic buildings in the world – the Sydney Opera House is an architectural masterpiece and vibrant performance space. It's a place where the past shapes the future, where conventions are challenged and cultures are celebrated. Step inside and discover the stories that make the Opera House so inspiring. Whether you’re a local or a tourist, a first-timer or an aficionado, the Sydney Opera House has something for everyone.
We have been travelling around in Australia for 9 weeks with friends from Austria and Switzerland. Today we visited the Sydney Opera House at 11:15am. The guides name was Bella. Lovely energetic young lady! It was the BEST, and only tour in the entire of Australia that my friends understood every word of the places she took us to today. Wonderful and very articulate when she speaks. Clear concise and entertaining. It was exactly one hour tour with fantastic stories, great photo opportunities, brilliant setup of lights for the illusionist and the “bumping out” and maintenance of the Joan Sutherland Theatre! Finally tour concluding with a happy ending in the Utzon Room. The building truly is remarkable inside and out with fantastic people working. Must see for all. We are glad we did this and took our friends here today! Do the tour!

I have been to this theatre many times over the years and I always get a thrill out of arriving at the Art Nouveau foyer and finding my seat in the splendour of the auditorium. As the stage area is limited compared to larger newer theatres, the shows here now tend to be for smaller productions or solo performers. Often shows are only on for a few days so be quick if you see something you want to see.

No trip to Sydney is complete without seeing an opera at the Sydney Opera House. Opera Australia performs at the Sydney Opera House January-April and July-November every year. Opera Australia also performs at Arts Centre Melbourne and on the Sydney Harbour stage. Most performances start at 7.30pm and run 2–3 hours with an interval. There is no dress code. English translations are projected above the stage for all operas sung in foreign languages. Selected operas in the season will also have Simplified Chinese translations (Carmen, La Traviata, Opera on Sydney Harbour and Aida).
What a wonderful Opera. Firstly the set design was magnificent. The costumes divine and the cast just brilliant. I could not think of a better way to spend an evening then taking in this funny, cheeky and fast moving Opera. Mozart's music is dramatic and breathtaking.Opera Australia puts its heart and soul. in to making this a rich and vibrant opera,From the exquisite wigs, costumes , sets and cast and orchestra. If you want to see what in my mind is such a great Opera I would highly recommend this breathtaking gem.

The Genesian Theatre is a small theatre in Sydney. It began in 1944 and is housed in a building dating back to the mid-19th century. It produces some excellent plays and a lot of artistic talent. Worth a visit.

My partner and I came here this evening for a performance of one of my favourite soloist pianist Hoang Pham. Hoang performs annually at this venue and this was his 4th year in a row. Tonight with the assistance of Konrad Olszewski (orchestral reduction). I have been lucky enough to catch 3 of the performances. Tonight’s performance was of Grieg’s Piano Concerto in A minor, Op 16 and the great Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No 3 in D minor, Op 30. Grieg’s incredible sole piano concerto set the scene in the first half. The second half was dominated by Rachmaninoff’s 3rd. Between the two you felt yourself transported to another world, an ethereal plane. Such a perfect evening. Seeing this performed at the City Recital Hall was fabulous. Aside from the Sydney Opera House this was the first purpose-built music venue in Sydney, opening in 1999. As much as I love the Sydney Opera House for Opera performances and the Symphony, I prefer the City Recital Hall for more intimate performances. The acoustics are suburb and you feel an immediate connection with the artist, allowing yourself to be transported on fabulous journeys. I look forward to many more performances at this venue. Definitely, hopefully many more with Hoang Pham on stage.
