Just a couple of hours north of Las Vegas lies an oasis called Cedar City. Home to Southern Utah University, and close to a number of scenic national parks, this charming and compact city offers visitors a great home base for exploring the area. Golf, skiing, biking and other outdoor recreational activities abound. In the summer, mountain bikers flock to the Brian Head Peak Activity Center, for challenging runs and spectacular scenery. Also called the "Festival City," Cedar City plays host to a number of prestigious film, theater and art festivals throughout the year (the summer Shakespearean Festival is one of the more well-known fetes), making anytime a great time to visit.

My husband and I were tired of the glitz, glamour and losing our money in Vegas so we rented a car and took a half day horse ride on Bullet & Biggin’ at Rising K Trail rides. A mere 40+ degrees as we rode up down a snow covered mountain with the beautiful vistas, the sounds of nature & the scattered wildlife. Clay is the owner & trail guide and made sure we knew what we were doing & that we were safe! He took us on steep inclines & declines that I never imagined I could do! Of course, as with me, something always happens out of the ordinary! Bullet decided he wanted to lay down and roll in the snow with me on him!! Freaky at first, but at least he did it with grace! The only awful part of the day is that their sweet dog, who followed us the entire way, stepped in someone’s awful trap. Clay, my husband and another gentleman were able to free him thankfully! Of course this was not the trail rides fault and the sweet dog’s leg was not broken! He was able to get himself back! We fully recommend this company!

Great area to walk and take your dogs for exercise, regardless of time of year or time of day. Beautiful scenery and in the spring when the snow melt runs off its great to watch the water falls.

Via Hwy 14 at Red Hollow - it is a beautiful hike back up to Thor's Hideout. Pictures to take, depending on time of year, are spectacular. Only caution, take a weapon with you as we have spotted mountain lion and bobcat footprints that were fairly fresh. Also, in warmer weather you need to pay close attention for snakes on the trail. It is their territory after all and we are just visiting. Sad part is the moron factor who go back there and think that tagging the rocks is necessary. Keep your selves and your spray paints in your State and if you are from Utah, go home and stay home. Destroy your own homes, not the pristine beauty of our Utah trails.

I did a lot of research since I would be doing this trail by myself and not during top tourist season. That work was invaluable. I drove to the fork of Strawberry Point Road and Route 059 and parked the vehicle there. I road along Strawberry point Road to Strawberry point and then looked at the sights. On the way back, I chose the singletrack route and rode it back to the starting point. It really helped to have looked at the maps beforehand and also to have a GPS map available for when I got disoriented. I saw very few people, and really enjoyed that part of the experience. I returned to the parking spot by getting off the singletrack route and taking Forest Service Road 1912. It was a fun return trip. The elevation is moderate to high and it's desert, so be prepared. To be honest, I rode this in September of 2016, but I'm not supposed to make a review that old. Since I don't see any other mountain biking reviews of this area, I hope this is both acceptable and helpful. Temps were comfortable in the shade and warm in the sunshine. The views looking down on Zion NP are really wonderful from anyplace along the rim.
