Welcome to the beautiful, 19th-century Le Chai au Quai. Fully renovated in 2011, it stands majestically on the banks of the Dordogne river, right next door to the renowned region of Saint-Emilion. A spurious, political dividing line separates the two. The building you are standing in was once where the barrels, coming down river in flat-bottomed boats (gabares), were stored. Today it's our 'winemaking headquarters' - a working winery, with gleaming stainless steel vats and stacks of the finest oak barrels to craft our special 'homemade' wines. Some are more traditional - special cuvées of Bordeaux we've sourced through our network of contacts and rescued from being blended away. Our winemakers Jean-Marc Sauboua and Mark Hoddy give these their customary TLC to lend them a real boost of quality, then proudly bottle them under Le Grand Chai label. We're equally boastful of our more innovative wines, which break appellation rules in the quest to make the very best ... and as a consequence, they are labelled as simple table wines. These are unique bottles of outstanding quality, which challenge some of the finest classics. We are open all year round for visits. So, if you come and visit us, we'll ensure a welcoming party for every occasion!
