Once an important center for sugar production, Puerto Rico's fourth largest city's current fortunes come from its factories. Intriguing nicknames for the city of nearly 200,000 include The Land of Giants and Arm Hackers Town. Situated on the island's north shore, this Atlantic city is considered part of the metropolitan San Juan area. Popular attractions include Carolina Beach, Casa Escute art gallery, Caribbean Raceway Park and Isla Verde Mall. To make the most of your visit, consider renting a car.

Hector was an amazing guide. He took us on a wonderful excursion of a coral reef that was easily reached from the beach. After seeing a ton of wildlife on the reef, he allowed us to use his equipment to try to see sea turtles in another area. Highly recommended!

Balneario Carolina is long stretch of white sand just east of the Isla Verde area in San Juan. It has a parking lot, restrooms, and showers. There's a kiddie water park at the eastern end of the beach.
Lots of parking ($5), restrooms, showers, shade trees, security, lifeguards. Mostly clean (people are pigs). Beautiful, clear blue water. I was surprised to see only one food stand open, but better than nothing, I guess! We went to only one other beach (Pine Grove), which was fine, but this one was better. It's a big beach, so there may have been a lot of people, but it definitely didn't feel crowded.

The white sand, the sun, the view, the breeze and the warm water was amazing. When we decided to visit PR we weren't sure of our decision. But we found a beautiful place with wonderful people. We stayed at Dreams Hotel Miramar and we had a great time. The people at the hotel told us about what we could do in Covid's time and we were able to enjoy our vacation. PR has plenty of beautiful beaches to visit. Most with white sand and crystal clear waters. We enjoyed our stay and will be coming back.

Playa La Posita is probably one of the better-known beaches in Pinones because of its accessibility. It's right on PR-187, and one of its distinctive attributes is that a long breakwater hinders the intense Atlantic waves from crashing into "La Posita", which translates as the pool, or the puddle. Its waters are similar to those of a pool: calm and cool, perfect for bathing without having to struggle with the waves' intensity. Moreover, you can park in front of the beach, and, across the PR-187, you can grab a bite in some of Pinones' best beach shack, like El Guariquiten.

If you want to spend a good day at the beach, I definitely recommend this place. Water and sand are clean. You can rent chairs and umbrellas. There is sale of food and drinks and an additional attraction for children is that from the beach you can see the planes taking off.

Absolutely wonderful and beautiful beach. The sea is picture perfect. Well maintained and beach rentals available. My favorite beach for swimming and just enjoying the beach vibe.
The Reserva Marina Arrecife de Isla Verde (Coral Reef Marine Reserve of Isla Verde) is a protected area where sea turtles such as the Carey and Tinglar come to lay their eggs. Here you can do some scuba diving to enjoy the coral reef's underwater beauty, or you can just admire the ocean from the shoreline. The Reserva Marina has an information center and educational billboards on specific points of the beach so that you can learn more about how to protect our beaches. Enjoy our beaches!
The Loiza Linear Park, which runs from Isla Verde to Pinones, offers visitors an extraordinary way to experience Loiza's beaches and the Pinones Statal Forest. At the beginning of this park, you'll find a beautiful, beachfront plaza where you can admire San Juan's skyline from the distance; then, the adventure begins with the boardwalk. You can walk it entirely (although it will certainly take you a few hours to complete the 11km-long boardwalk) or you can speed things up by renting a bike or bringing your own. This is a great activity to enjoy with your family since you can sightsee and try to identify the local flora and fauna (land crabs, seagrape, and mangroves have proliferated beautifully in these areas).
The Plaza de la Juventud is small plaza in Carolina that has an spectacular viewpoint and an amazing ocean view toward the Balneario de Carolina in one side an in the other the beginning of Pinones. Both are touristic places that are a must when you visit Puerto Rico. This plaza has a big and cool sculpture in stainless steel that decorates the ambiance. This a great stop to take pictures while you rest if you are running a bicycle all over from Isla Verde to Pinones, or even walking. Oh yes, this is part of the trail of the Parque Lineal of Loiza that actually starts in Isla Verde.
