This is a real gem of a place here in Carleton Place. Not only do they sell any/all your knitting needs, they sell beautiful and affordable clothing. They also have an amazing Railways museum tucked in the back. You literally could spend several hours here and not see everything. The staff are amazing and helpful....a real gem of a place.

The Carleton Place and Beckwith Heritage Museum is located in a heritage designated stone building. Built in 1872 as the Town Hall, it was converted to Victoria School in 1879. It served as a public school until 1969. Murals on the building tell its story as a municipal building and include prisoners in the jail cell and students from the past! Visit us to learn about the Township of Beckwith, first surveyed in 1816, and the community of Carleton Place founded in 1819 on the banks of the Mississippi River.Learn about our lumber industry, textile mills and strong military connections. Did you know Carleton Place is the home of Roy Brown, credited with shooting down the Red Baron in 1918? While on site, be sure to visit the Victoria School garden and "Walk the Path" at the Community Labyrinth, located behind the Museum.
A great place for kids and adults to learn about the history and settlement of this region. From the Aboriginal Peoples to the first settlement and later development they cover almost 200 years of the history of the region. Great for a couple of hours or a whole afternoon. While onsite enjoy the community Gardens and the labryinth beside the museum.

We walk this nature walk everyday with our dog, and it is the highlight of our day. It runs between 9th Line and 10th Line, and is a wide, gravelled walking path. The walk covers a nice variety of terrain and offers lots of different ecosystems. The walk begins in a lovely forest, passes through a huge wetland, then back through forest again, crosses over a stream, and passes through two farmer fields. There are some truly gorgeous views along the way, especially in the fall. We have seen lots of wildlife on the trail, but also we frequently see droppings left by bear (full of acorns!) and wolf or coyote (large and full of bone and fur). In the winter part of this trail is a snowmobile trail. Though you will rarely meet a snowmobiler, the benefit of this is that the trail is groomed and more easily walked in heavy snow.

Harmony and her team (sorry guys I forgot your names) were awesome not only in their instructions but their patience and encouragement. I had a wonderful night being on the water with all of them. I hope to get out again before the weather changes. Thanks guys! Linda
