Grossglockner High Alpine Road

One of Austria's top 3 destinations amidst the Alps The Grossglockner High Alpine Road is like an ornament of ribbons located between green mountain pastures, colourful flower meadows, rocky rubble, ice and show. It nestles up against hills, follows the course of the natural ground and fits the mountains like a glove. Whooshing waterfalls, the shrill whistling of marmots and the howling wind in the summit regions create an unforgettable high alpine soundscape. And then, all of a sudden, he appears: his majesty, the Grossglockner, the black mountain. Join us for a journey beyond compare up high to the perpetual ice of the glacier!

The roads are well-maintained thus the entrance fee is worth it. Mountain landscape is breathtaking and heavenly. One can make short stops spontaneously for clicking or snacks. Restaurants are in major hot spots. No boring moment because the weather was glorious: sunny and blue skies. It would have been otherwise had it rain. Serpentine roads. Water falls upon reaching the the top of Grosglockner !

Enjoyed the drive up here very much. The road which normally cost 12 euros is free in the winter. The road was very snowy but still well maintained. Fantastic views on the way up and quite a few places to stop and enjoy them. Large car park at the end then a great walk with the dog for a couple of kilometres. Plenty of smaller slopes for the kids to enjoy the sledge. Great trip.

An unplanned first timer climb to the the summit on a changing weather after our lunch. Truly Austrian views as in " Sound of Music " as you hike. Halfway through the hiking, thick clouds hovered our way. Feeling like immersed in the cloud with a meter visibility walk. I almost give up.Perseverance paid -off after a 2.5 hours ascent. Upon reaching the top at 2167 meters, the clouds lifted up. The most beautiful, stunning panoramic 360 degrees views unfolded before my eyes. The clouds seemingly were beneath my feet. Wow, almost a ladder-away to heaven. Magical horizon where mountains curvatures added breathtaking views. There are 2 pilgrimages churches considered the highest in Austria's Eastern Alps. The German built Church " Maria am Stein " and Wendisch Chapel " Mariahimmelfart " (Assumption). A Cross on the highest point is a nice symbol. Cows and donkeys around. There is a restaurant with accommodation. Food is good. Next to it is a huge TV tower. Descending was awesome with blue skies, green, green hills, lakes at a distance, villach city from above. Just a lovely place for mountain hiking even for beginners. A good mountain shoes is advisable though. An entrance fee of 18. euro for our car to enter this park. This is a recommendable park when one is in Villach, Austria. Spend a day or even an overnight to experience nature's beauty from sunrise to sunset. A good weather is a plus factor. A bucket-list checked ! Hope to be back !

ATRIO Villach

Shopping "senza confini" The central theme behind a shopping center. ATRIO is located right at the intersection between Carinthia, Slovenia and Friuli-Venezia Giulia. Here at the intersection of three countries, three languages and three cultures, ATRIO has developed into a platform for the people of these regions. The slogan "shopping senza confini" makes ATRIO the first themed shopping center in Austria and the Alps-Adriatic region. The phrase "senza confini" comes from Italian and means "without borders/limitless".
