I had a great time hiking solo on hinchinbrook island. It was pretty hot in November so I recommend going in winter/spring. I ran into a few other hikers while I was there and shared camp sites most nights but had the days to myself. My phone fell in the first creek crossing so I recommend using a clip seal bag if your phone isn’t waterproof haha. My adventure turned into a tech detox too! I recommend transfers with hinchinbrook island cruises for great info and easy transfers. And make sure you have your permits handy as the rangers come a round to the camp sites.

The Cardwell Park Rest Area at the south of Cardwell Beach features amenities and covered picnic areas, but is also the start of a nice Wetlands walk along teh waterfront and mangroves. Well worth the stop

We visited today as a day trip from Cairns. Easy drive off the highway with the last section being a gravel road (2wd was fine). We have had plenty of rain the past few weeks and could see where the water had gone across the road, so if taking a 2wd be careful! Bottom car park is beside the creek and plenty of spots for swimming as water was high and flowing. Walked up to the top carpark and camp ground which had toilet facilities. Easy walk along a boardwalk to base of falls. Water was gushing and was a sight to see. Swim in the waterhole was lovely and refreshing.

Recommend to see if in Cardwell area only a short drive from town centre to cool off at this beautiful waterhole.

Bring your swimsuit! Pristine water. Convenient access thanks to a few stairs. Shaded tables for a nice lunch.

The spa was flowing well during our visit. The water is refreshing and the lower pool is spacious and deep. Definitely worth the short drive out from Cardwell
