Lying in south central Turkey, the moonscaped region of Cappadocia, southeast of Ankara, is most famous for unique geological features called fairy chimneys. The large, cone-like formations were created over time by erosion of the relatively soft volcanic ash around them. Past cultures have dug into them to create dwellings, castles (like Uchisar) and even entire underground cities like Kaymakli and Derinkuyu, used as hiding places by early Christians. Nearby Kayseri is the gateway to the area.

This reveiw is long overdue. But we had a great time purchasing 2 rugs from Hasan. He was very polite, patient. honest and very passionate about his merchandise. Prices were really the best we have encountered in Turkey, very reasonable and we are very happy with our carpets. If I should return to Turkey, Rose Carpet would be the place to go! Highly recommended!

My parents and I first met Ruth in the early 2000s. Last spring during the midst of the pandemic, I worked via email with Ruth to select some kilim cushion covers for the house my husband and I had just moved into. The attached picture are a mix of some I purchased in 2015 during a visit to Turkey and some that were shipped to us during the pandemic. Online ordering was easy and secure, and shipping was fast. But nothing compares to actually visiting her store.

Sultan Carpet shop established in 1989 and has been serving with the best way to the customers who come from all over in the world and has been in the same place and the same name for 29 years.
I was planning to Sultan Carpets after reading the reviews they had over here, and I was NOT disappointed. I was greeted by Ali and Mustafa the first day I got there, they first choice I have to make on their shop is between a Turkish tea, or an Apple tea. They talked me through the ranges of carpets types, qualities, and prices. He wasn't hesitated to unroll any of his carpets to give me choices of which one carpets suits me the best, the price are very very reasonable, InsyaAllah the carpets I got will suits the house really fine. Ali's English is exceptional, I know so many Turkish around Göreme speaks English but there is something different with him, turns out he spent time in America for 5 years which explains a lot, him and Mustafa were very honest about their business, they are very comfortable to talk to, a genuine carpet shop runs by genuine carpet lover persons. Me as a moslem brother is proud to see our brother have such dedication and honesty, a very good example of Turkish hospitality! I really wanna go back to Göreme, and with God's will if I do, I'll definitely visit Sultan Carpet again!

Ebru art, Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by the UNESCO. NAİLE BOZKURT Intangible cultural heritage is CARRIERS. WHAT IS EBRU? One of the most common methods of decorating, bookbinding the endpapers of hand-bound books is Ebru. Classic Turkish Ebru, which is also known as Turkish marbled paper, is made by drawing designs with paint on water, and then carefully placing paper (or materials, such as glass etc.) on the surface of the water in order to absorb the paint. Ebru seems magical, and yet it is improbably simple. The basics haven’t changed very much over the past several hundred years. It still involves depositing bits of color on the surface of water.
Beautiful shop, incredibly talented owner, who welcomed us in and was very kind to our daughter, giving her a wonderful lesson on Ebru art. We loved our visit and will definitely be back again!

I was born in 1957 in Ankara. After finishing the high school, I studied and graduated from French Language and Literature. After working a short period of time as a teacher, in 1983, I changed my direction to tourism and commerce. After retirement, I started to get involved with ceramic arts, which is just when I found the pottery had become “corrupt” in my words; plates made of plaster painted with synthetic dyes everywhere… I decided to perform the art of “Cini” as it should be and started. While mastering my drawing and painting technique, I also excelled in drawing original Hittite figures on the plates. All my products are ' FREE HAND ' works. Since the Hittite figures are geometrical figures, I prefer pen filled with purified and thinned “cini” dye, instead of brush, to draw the figures. Since I only use Hittite figures, I chose the name of the shop Hattusa, which is the capital of Hittites.

Kervan Carpet & Kilim was established in 1978 by my father. We sell old and antique carpets woven in Anatolia in the same manner as they been have for centuries. Our source for these carpets is often from wedding dowries and those handed down from our ancestors. All carpets use natural vegetable dyes, unlike others sold commercially which are not of good quality.
This is my second time at Ibrahim shop.. I already bought few kilim gigim and carpet before last few year.. Try to compare with almost all carpet shop in goreme and urgup, Kervan carpet n kilim for me is the best.. they sell good quality carpet depending on your budget and explain everything in details.. their hospitality and service are great.. if you want to learn about carpet and kilim just come and meet ibrahim and his partner.. they will tell you everything even you not going to buy any.. Just for the record, they sell their carpet with very reasonable price compare to other shop that sell almost double the price..
